Just hoping they'll fit so my new bandit 29r becomes a fat bandit...
well they fit. plenty of clearance on the back. bit tight on the front but seem ok so far.
i'm impressed so far. getting to grips with the grip and starting to fly on them.
noisy on the road but according to strava they arent any slower and been setting some PR's on offroad climbs.

Or how about 26 x 3 as per latest Surly Troll spec.
Try and keep up.

Wheels arrived (which was quick)
To get them up tubeless do I remove the red rum tape?
Then some wide Gorilla tape?

Yes and yes

Yes, well that's what I did and it appeared to work

Although the inside width of the rims and the width of the Gorilla tape are both 45mm I trimmed about 5mm from the tape as I wasn't convinced that I'd get the tyres on otherwise.

Placed order for my frame (Next gen Sherpa). It's on backorder until later this month.
Will be getting Scrapers on Pro2 evo with Bridger/Trail Boss combo and Reba 120mm Solo Air Boost forks from Stanton as well.
Will probably build up 2x10 XT for a start.
Man, it's going to be a loooong month....

As Bob says, don't go mad with the tape, much more than 1 wrap and the tyres will be pretty tight.

Tyres went on without too much swearing and popped up without issue. A few attempts to get them to fully seal but seem ok. We'll see in the morning
Any recommendations for a digital pressure gage so I can have a play with the pressures?

I used the recommended 50mm WTB tape on my Scrapers.

I've got an SKS Air Checker which works well.

Kind of finalised my build with Dan @Stanton:
Next gen Sherpa (L in that green)
Scraper rims on Pro2 evos with 3" Bridger/Trail Boss combo.
Reba solo air 120mm boost forks
2x11 SLX & matching brakes.
Still at least a couple weeks off shipping yet though....

hows everyone else getting on with the rumpus wheels?
200 miles in on mine and the front wheel lost all its spoke tension 4 rides ago and started flexing all over the place. Tightened it up and seems ok so far.
and the back wheel did it this morning on my ride into work.

Mine are holding up well, no noticeable loss of tension, probably done 500Km on them including the Peak 200 attempt and quite a few rocky, bumpy trails. Having said that I don't think I'd trust them on something like the Tour Divide. No complaints for the price.

I've not had any issues with tension. I did have to replace the bearings in the freehub after not that many miles and had a strange issue with the freehub oil seal .... when tightening the axle end caps, the freehub would start to become stiff, the more I tightened the stiffer it became until it became almost too stiff to turn. Numerous strips and application of calipers deducted that the freehub was binding on the seal. Following a light application of grinder to the seal, all's now well.
Alpkit hadn't come across this before, so can only assume it was a one off / rarity.

I have been giving them a battering and they seem to have re-tensioned fine so far.
it was just interesting that over the course of a couple of rides they both did the same thing.

Rear wheel needs bearings replaced after not too many miles. Spoke tension is fine.

Machine built wheel - not too uncommon. Just be happy they aren't Mavic Crossmax SLs which require a new set of bearings every 40 hours in my experience.
Anyone want to buy some crap wheels?

Converted the Swift over to B+ wheels and 3" tyres
Plenty of room up front and just enough clearance at the back, but have had to go to 1x10 to get chainline clearance.
Spin around some local well know trails to have a play around.
Pluses and minus over regular 29er wheels. Not good/bad, just different.
Completely transforms the characteristics of the bike, from mile muncher into hooligan. Point it downhill over rough ground and it just rolls and bounces over things with ease, whereas normally it would get down, but it wouldnt be happy about it.
You certainly notice the extra weight of the wheels, just from lifting it out of the basement. Climbings harder work, but not really surprising with big tyres but once up to speed it feels like it could roll over anything.
Had me giggling, between the Oh F##k! moments, when its bouncing over things. Undecided about the Bridger on the front as a couple of times it washed out, but conditions were greasy and i'm still playing around with pressures, so i'll persevere for a while.
Not sure i'd want to run the wheels and gearing over a long trip as a lot more effort, but for general bimbling, messing about and exploring boggy tracks over winter they'll be a lot of fun.

Just been looking round the lbs and I'm amazed that wtb 2.4 tyres on one of the 27.5 bikes were almost as big as the 2.8 ones.

Put a hole in the side of my nobby nic this morning that wouldn't seal.
Only a three mile walk back to the car and a trip to the the bike shop at lunchtime for a weldite tubeless repair kit....
