400A entered. For me no points = no point, so it had to be the BR time limited one.

Did anyone else stay up to enter just after midnight last night?

I realised then that the AUK thing probably isn't set up for or expecting that kind of reaction and went to bed... Now looking for a few other events to do, easier 300-400s mainly, why not. The 2017 National 400 route looks good.

Me and SWMBO have just entered the 400km in 40hr event.

I have no idea how im going to ride that far in that time.

Any help greatly appreciated. My mental arithmatic makes 10kmh seem a feasable average....but i doubt i have ever been away for 40hr straight!

Obviously any help and howls of derision greatly appreciated!

I generally work on 10kmh as an off road average. Maintaining that on the road and having enough time for stops shouldn't be too difficult. Amongst all the hills there's some reasonably fast sections.

I'm no long-distance expert but I pulled a similar ride out of the bag last year - 240 miles in less than 24 hours. That was heavily road biased. My only real training ride was a 160 in 16 hours. No doubt you'll find what's best for you but I found averaging 10 mph (including stops) was achievable. Pacing is obviously important. You don't want to be going off too fast. Keeping stops to a minimum, eating while moving, avoiding sit-down meals (especially with slow service). All of these things make a difference.

Fab, i will just ride my bike as often as i can until Chrismas, then see about specifically increasing distances.

They are prescribed routes but there's a couple of sections (like Happy Valley) where the off-road alternate is much more fun.

They're audaxes aren't they? So no prescribed route. There may be a suggested route, but any route is fine as long as you visit the controls.

IMO B or C would be the nicer rides but C doesn't take in the Staircase and has less climbing. At 1800m, it's almost flat

just entered the 300 slow .
or you never know I may ride it fast .
But I am missing a bike to do it on at the moment ,I think I can soon sort that out

Considering that that's 6 times my usual amount of climbing in a day, it's hilly enough

Me too. Wales, my favourite part of the country, where I grew up. But now I live in Fenlandia, so the riding up the hills should be an interesting experience ...

I'll be on 25mm tyres, as they're the largest my geared bike will fit (in fact the largest my fixed-gear will fit, but I'm NOT riding this fixed!). There isn't a whole lot of off-road compared to on-road, about 10-15% distance-wise, so I hope to make back time lost in the *ahem* 24-inch gear, with some speed on the other sections.

400A entered. Need to get a move on with the Gravel Bike purchase. Test ride booked for November -in Switzerland; is that a stupid idea...?

Such as shame all the best Euro BP events happen around the same time.

Anybody want to explain what this AUK points thing is all about for the uninitiated? Do they make prizes?
