I met Tim at the start, very spangly custom Ti frame. Steve Moat should finish soon as well. Another Brit I rode with who had big problems with his knees. Glad to see he managed to push on.

Tim's a nice chap. The frame was made by a friend of his who's a blacksmith but is getting into frame building, clearly his talents are waisted making gates as it is very nice.

Tim also has a cuben tarp made by a sailmaker friend which looked really nice, I saw it in the Dales.

I am pretty sure Steve Moat is the sail maker

technicaly you were beaten by a girl with one gear, not no gears,
Surely its Ok to describe a SS as a bike with no gears?
I agree she has one gear but she does not have gearS
When someone points out my ssp with "there's only one gear!" I like to say I actually have two.
Riding and hiking
I've always gone with three: sitting down, standing up and walking! :-bd

but you were still beaten by a girl with no gears
You somehow forgot to mention she’s a big lass and was shod in steeler work boots and cut off jeans...

Still, waaaay better than me for sure, so I tip my hat in respect.

Three gears:
Sitting. Standing. Reverse.

Old track joke.

Everyone is forgetting coasting!!

Wonder how many miles the singlespeeders coasted during the ride? Must be a quarter or so, so 500-650 miles or so.

@FLV: must be lack of context from the typed word.

Let me be clear I have a lot of respect for both parties (and do not intend to diminish either).

Suggest you don't bother.
Someone will likely be offended either way.

Just didn't seem a very nice, or remotely relevant thing to say.

If you're happy with it, let it stand and I'll say no more.

Sadly the answer is “yes”. I am sat in a hotel typing it already. So so so much experience crammed into 3 weeks.

Jay P has been dropped by a salsa

Dear Adventure Community,

Some of you may be aware of the public debate of rules surrounding this year’s Tour Divide. While we appreciate a healthy discussion, we were disappointed by the behavior of Salsa Cycles sponsored athlete Jay Petervary. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to end our sponsorship agreement with Jay.

We would like to make clear that our decision was not based on the Tour Divide rules, nor the interpretation of those rules. During the conflict that surrounded this year’s Tour Divide, Jay’s conduct simply did not align with our brand values of empathy, community, and positivity.

Over the years, Jay Petervary has been an important partner for Salsa Cycles in supporting and growing Adventure By Bike. We wish him the best in his next adventure.

Sincerely,
Salsa Cycles

I'd better email them and let them know I'm available, I already have a bike so it will only cost them a jersey to have me replace him

Dave, have a look on the Facebook page, there was a big discussion about Lael's film crew which jp was involved in, although his opinion was basically the same as other top riders/previous winners who chipped in to the discussion.

Jay said what Lael's film crew were doing was not in spirit of TDR. Much debate over whether it was or not and whether Jay was throwing stones around a glass house that he may have built himself, but no longer lived in. Then Jay praised the ethics of a racer who may have been being documented under the radar all that while, at which point the only film we actually were interested in was one with a Tarantino-esque plot set at BML where one by one the holed-up leaders break out in a muddy rather than bloody finale.

Honestly you probably don't want to know, it's all a little sour.

Ps. Great ride Dave. I hope you where satisfied with what you achieved.

All a bit messy imo!

I suppose making light of what went on might not be right if there was more unfriendly stuff going around. TBH I only picked up on the ethics and hypocrisy debate but the radavist article afterward suggests it got more direct.
