I found Marys comfy but I was useless trying to ride fast with them for some reason and they are a bit narrow so for now the are in the spares bin and I've gone back to normal eastons. Maybe I should try fleegles instead.

I tried the Mary's upside down and taped for a bit which was nice but they were too low for my old neck

I use Fleegles at full width (can't remember what that is but it's quite wide, 740mm maybe?) anyway, I really like them but if they had an extra 5 degree backsweep they'd be perfect and much more in keeping with the other strange bars from On One

I also like Salsa Pro Moto flats with the 17 degree sweep but they're a bit narrow ... could do with the two mating.

Thankyou Ian and Ray - nicely matching snaps! I was enjoying the Fleegles on the commuter after a bit of time off the bike but then rode the Canyon at the weekend with Eastons and now the Fleegles feel a bit odd! I guess at £12 the Mary's are worth trying.

Fitted my Jones bars last night. Didn't notice this problem

I find my hand naturally wants to sit on the cross bar section when on road / fire tracks. Trigger shifters foul this area and I have tried thumbies which work well when loaded but again are in the way of where my hands want to be when nothing is strapped to the bars :x I thnk SS is the ideal way to use them

taping up the loop with bar tape was an interesting exercise too...

I tape up to and just over the grips as well as I find I need brakes/gears bar clamps for taped to for comfort. Picture below shows what I mean. And how far inboard will you be holding those bars?

Ian, if you can make a fairly light + slim pocket (snacks, gps / mp3, camera, arm warmers max? ie up to a kg or so packed) that sits on top of a loop bar with a map/route-notes window on top in the next month or 2, I'm buying one.. I used this a while back and admitted a bar-bag has its place : )

Re Jones bars and the positions, I still like the older non-loop H bars for their wider cross-brace and the weld position, tend to use them SS or with thumbies and they're my go-to bar now. I made a neat mod to an M770 onward XT rapidfire that makes them work better with Jones older H / Titec Js, but with loops there's more space in that area. I just wanted the loop for longer rides and map / light mounts, maybe an aero-bar style 'slump' position too. Great bars though, well-recommended for rigid bikes and touring / 'packing.

Heh, I figured I wasn't alone. While this might be a small market, it is a market nonetheless
I had in mind it sitting within the loop (so as to retain part of the loop for hand positions [including the slumped aero position] and/or attaching lights/GPS). But, sitting on top is an interesting idea - certainly overcomes the limitations you'd find with regard to size of a transparent pocket for putting a map in. So, next question is how thick/tall would you envisage this bag being, if it sat on top of the loop and had a similar sized "footprint"?

Damn if you're going to make a bag to fit them, I'm just going to have to go get some loop bars now aren't I?!

Hi Ian, I'd need to use the bar more first, your idea of having sit within the bar is good, I thought it'd need to sit on top to work with a bar roll that's strapped to the stem section of the bar. Width - not much more than a std OS map / folded paper notes sheet would leave plenty of bar space, height maybe 2", or less? I wouldn't want to put too much stuff in there, there's harness bags etc for that, more of an alternative that works for maps as well as small items that you'd put in a gas tank - like a gas overspill. If it fixed at the front and hinged up / QR'd from the stem section it'd make bar straps easy to access. I'd guess you'd figure out all the details well based on what I've seen of your gear so far.

I've an old, inexpensive commuter that I UTTERLY RAGGED for 3 1/2 years. It was really ready for the bin as the components well worn and would cost more than the bike to replace, but the frame was still OK. I was going to bin it as I'd just got a new bike for commuting but then decided to get the frame powdercoated, which was only £25. The orange will really make my eyes pop. Plus a used set of carbon rigid forks from STW classifieds. I filed to gear cable lugs cos this is going SS.

Wildcat Tiger - looking like a nice piece of kit too. Just need a fuel tank from Pawel or Revelate to complete my luggage setup and then I better get off my backside and get out riding. Still on 0 or this year...
