Just been for a burn out to Harts Hill, Nuneaton and Bedworth. Hot one out there but maybe the last sun cream required ride for a while so totally worth it.
Up to 23x23.
You can take it easy now Neil, no point in getting ahead

In your vid to mention getting to 38x38
Any particular reason?

I used to ride a lot around Hartshill and Nuneaton when I was a kid! Haven’t been for a ride round there for 25 years!

No. I drew a totally arbitrary square on the map that took in a load of squares that I had and a load I didn't, just to give me some focus on which areas I would visit first. It just happened to be 38x38
I was thinking of writing up a blog post about the areas that I have enjoyed finding and how although ticking off squares is one part of it, that finding nice places has been the really rewarding part of it. Something else it has helped me find, is routes out of the city in different directions. I'm somewhat reluctant to get too excited about those right now though as I suspect they might be less easy to ride once the roads are back to normal.

Is there anything stopping me from signing up to free trial of strava, creating loads of routes and saving the files to my pc/Garmin then ditching it when the trial ends and keep the routes?

I'm pretty sure not. If you save the files as GPX on a PC then there'd be no issue. On the other hand, I'm still on the free to use non-signed up cheapskate variant of Strava, and I can still access routes I'd set up beforehand via the IQ Strava app on my Garmin.... not sure if I'm supposed to be able to do that..... I can't go in and create new routes certainly.

My understanding is that that is intended so you don't lose access to stuff you have made.

I can still see routes i've planned in the past.
I had thought about going down that route, but I plotted a route for a ride last night to fill in some gaps using another site.
It wasnt really any hardship flipping between VV and Komoot and all worked perfectly

I’ve just lost a couple of hours plotting routes and exporting them to my laptop. Just need to practice marking bridleways/tow paths etc (Have digi roam open on iPad whilst plotting the route in strava on my laptop, an arse about face way of doing it)

A mixture of roads and tracks through Oxfordshire and gloucestershire pushed my square up to 25x25, found some nice trails and potential Bivvy spots.
27x is about 2 rides away

Shall we start a little leaderboard? Just as a bit of fun, you can quote and repost if you've changed your scores. Here are some of the ones from this page, just to get us started, I haven't gone back through the thread so there will be loads more to add, I know Kevin/blackhound has a big max square and I think Chew is pretty big too
Bearbones VV max square leaderboard

25 - bigdummysteve
21 - Composite
20 - slarge
19 - benp1

Still sat on 8x8 at the minute.
I've got a few tiles rogue tiles to unlock before I push on to bigger numbers, once these are done then 16x16 is ultimately very acheivable given I've covered a fairly large area over the last couple of years since I've moved to Chester.
Whichever way, its given me a fresh perspective of my local area, and got me looking maps again rather than just bashing out my standard rides.
There are a few fairly isolated tiles down the River Dee which might call for me to do that SUP trip up river back to Chester that I've long thought about

10x10 for me, one or two rides will get me to 12x12.
Found some ‘lovely’ nettle, bramble and hawthorn fest trying to fill in some gaps over the last couple of weeks.

Do you have the VeloViewer App (Explorer Helper for VeloViewer)? It's very handy when you are out and about and need to check whether or not you've made it into a square.

I didn't know there is an app. It might have helped yesterday when I was so pleased to get two missing tiles in the middle of a group, only to get home and upload the data and find I missed one of the squares by about a metre or so!

If you've got a Garmin that supports Garmin IQ there's an app called
EveryTile that does the same thing but as a data screen on your Garmin.
Handy for when you're blasting along and don't want to get your phone out.

You can just use Veloviewer in the browser on a phone. I did this other day when I realised that my planned route meant climbing a locked gate. You don't get your location marked but its normally easy enough to work out where you are.
