Also depends on how seriously you are about achieving a certain target weight.
IMO..cut out as much sugar from your diet as possible.. everything like biscuits, chocolate, cake.
Cut right down on alcohol.

No definite equation but some similar experience. I was 106kg a couple of years ago and got down to 96kg over about 4.5 months without losing any fitness and power (well not sure about the latter)... that approx. 10% body weight loss made it feel like I was being pushed up hills on both the road and mountain bikes. Back to over 100kg at present but have definitely gained more power over the last few months so if i can loose a bit more weight I'll be back to wafting up hills with a following wind.
I'll miss the massive release of potential energy on the downhills though and all the pies to maintain the weight..... 1..9m or 6'3" so not a huge BMI at present--- still wrong side of 25 if it actually means much.
I'll never be back to the 84kg I was when climbing and running loads....... would have been interesting to compare climbing/times with my old self from back then.
