Salsa Spearfish rider here.

Bit heavier than my Specialized Camber but it's a lot faster. Climbs like a hardtail with a bit more compliance, descends like 150mm trail bike. If it's not obvious, I love it. FLV IF you want to try it out after lockdown give me a shout.

I bought this badboy off Ebay just as the lockdown started (3 weeks ago) as it was so cheap .

One of our brethren, Bob picked it up for me as it was local to him, and it is currently in his shed.

Another vote for the Kona Hei Hei. I have a 2016 one I bought cheap in 2017 to replace my 2015ish Spearfish when it spectacularly snapped in half.

The Hei Hei is built with 29x2.4, Hope Tech XC wheels and a 130mm Pike

I would say the Spearfish felt a little faster, but the Kona is no slouch. The Hei Hei is supremely confident downhill. It obviously only has 110mm out back, but I prefer it to my 160mm all mountain bike, unless I'm doing something Alpine.

The frame bag space is bigger than the SF. It feels a little heavier than the SF though.

Overall, I think it's an vaguely exciting bike for general trail riding and when you want an FS bike for bikepacking.

Oh, and worth pointing out it's still on its first pivot bearings, despite a lot of riding

2016 Hei Hei is a stunning bike. I spent 3 days in Austria for the launch with Kona and was stunned, literally STUNNED at how capable it was for a short trail XC bike. The new 120mm version is a very different beast. Friend of mine has it on test at the moment.

Like you I was on rigid for years and years, and I honestly think I’ve missed out by not having a full bouncer in my life - it’s only hindsight telling me this. I bought Scott L’s Orbea Occam TR on here and it’s really, really good. With rigid you’re always on a knife edge between fast and out of control when descending, whereas the full susser just hugs the ground.

Haven’t a clue on weight, but it’s a very nice setup and I’ve only needed to change the saddle. Eagle 1x12, Fox 34s, Hunt wheels, and this new invention called a dropper. Who knew that ‘dropping’ your seatpost while riding was actually really useful??

Ive actually had quite a few, but always veered towards having a lighter xc/bikepacking hardtail and then a more heavy duty lets say full suspender. Ive come to realise thats way i dont ride the suspension bike as much.

So, as a result of reflecting on what I actually want on this thread etc I'm building a more xc / bikepacking full suspension bike. Time will tell if I'm just throwing more money down the 'bike pit' but, hey, keeps me busy...
