For those interested, last year Phil was just in Glen Affric at this stage after the waterfall push up.

Phil also had a bad nights sleep before his last push - he may have also fallen asleep on the side of the road at one stage :)

Tom needs to push now, two realitivly flat sections in the next 24 hours - Great Glen and Caladonian Canal. This is getting really interesting now.

Its all about the sleep monster and the section to Camban
If either of them stop its potentially game over...... Whos in for the 36 hour stint?
Tom has taken a good hour out of Josh over the climb from Annat though

Josh is very slow down the road to Strathcarron.
Problem with bike or rider?

Josh confirmed as scratched. Gutted.
Hats off for an excellent ride to that point though

Bad news but congratulations on a fantastic effort.
With Josh out of the running and Phils record looking safe, will Tom drop the pace?

If I were in Tom's position, I'd want to beat my previous best time

Its with a real glum face that I confirm our race long leader Josh as a scratch.
Spoke to him on the phone, he's fine and safe if a bit sleepy.
Looks like his suspension linkages are toast - not sure if it's just the bearings or if they snapped. Either way, he is out.
He sounded surprisingly chipper for a bloke who's had sod all sleep - planning to head to the pub/inn in Strathcarron - fuel up - have a rest then get the train out.
Tom is now on the road leader.

Weirdly Mrs Gairy just told me about Josh scratching (by asking what 'scratching' means) as she's buddies with Tom's other half on the Facebook.
Shame as that race was making for great dot watching!

I'm intrigued. If josh has a borked bike. No one seems close to Tom for the win.
Cracking midfield race though. Particularly impressed with karl.
He's remarkably close to Mr goldsmith (a solid benchmark for riding a long way quickly) considering where he said he thought hed be on the peak monday night rides over the winter. clearly been some secret training.
Top ride from karl.

They do a mean pint of 80 shilling in that pub. That's where I scratched and got drunk in 2013 :)

The forecast for the area for the next 24 hours says rain, rain and more rain

Looks like Steve Field might have gone off-trail on the way into Ullapool where the route goes up the hill rather than past the quarry. Easily missed!

Toms making his way up the monster climb into Glen Affric...wonder if he will stop in Canban Bothy
Local lad Fraser MacBeath doing great!
Alan G stopped at his usual haunt in Fisherfield...I declined a bed there and slept outside last year ;-)
Rickie Cotter is just flying! She's doing amazing
Great Race....
Last year I completed it in just over 5 days...the last 2 days were tough! Good luck to them all.

Yes, likewise. I'm just waiting to see what the spot for Mike Toyn does. I don't believe he'd stop that early in the day at this point of the race. Maybe he has, or maybe his spot is off and he's making stealth progress (is that allowed?)
