Leaning towards to tarp/bivi setup now to try and reduce bulk (not necessarily weight) but we'll see.....

Not had any trouble before using Shimano shifter / mech and KMC chain ... not even had to adjust a B screw when using a long cage.

SRAM here too (X7 mech). Maybe that's why I've been unable to get the indexing perfect. But twiddling the barrel adjuster gives me something to do on dull road sections :)

Apologies for the unnecessary advice if you've ridden loads in the Alps etc... but if not then you're in for a treat!

I've found (as a larger gentleman) that on climbs of 1000-1500m alt. gain that there is no such thing as sufficiently easy gearing.

On a loaded bike with tired legs I soon run out of steam.

I'm running a 3x9 setup so my easiest is 22:36 and I know for a fact that I'll be walking often.

That said, there are those who just fly up without difficulties.

Ah c'mon, I'm a larger proportioned rider and I won't be doing much walking. If anything I'll be attacking those climbs like nobody's business.

All packed inc' my CTC bike bag, so quite happy with that.

Makes me feel justified in spending some money to change my Uncle John gearing from having a lowest of 33:30 to 33:36.
Done plenty of road col climbing (live near Grenoble), but admittedly not loaded. It was only when looking at the pictures of the Paris Chill team that I suddenly thought, 'oh, hang on, perhaps I need to change my gearing'.

Anyway, super psyched now!

Err, not sure, it's whatever the standard Apidura roll is. I'd estimate I've got it rolled down to around 12L.

There's not much weight in it Bob, the bar roll only contains my sleeping kit which I'd usually put there anyway. The only addition to that is my CTC bag / tarp. The front bag is more of a wallet ... although it'll no doubt get food and stuff added to it along the way.

Front's in the frame bag, rear's fastened to my hat

Feeling like I'm going to be horribly overpacked in comparison. On the other hand, I reckon I'm going to use everything I'm bringing and moot my slightly soft comfort requirements so I can't see me ditching anything.

Stuart, what tyres are you running there?

Would be interested in packing lists for Stuart's and Scott's set ups - looks like a racing set up there's so little

Saddle bag: Zpacks 0 degree bag, medkit, tubes (2), sleep/flying clothes.
Batpack6 (not shown): tools, spares, zip ties, phone, passport, currency, bike lock, keys, SPOT, rain jacket. Joystick mk8 on helmet.

Not racing, just going for light weight cause I don't have the little spinny gears (30/11-36). Pretty close to what I carry normally but I've moved the sleeping bag to the Viscacha which forces me to pack much less out back.

Knocked 5Kg off me in the last 8 weeks as well. Not Barter-weight by any means, but it's less to drag up hill.
