A pair of Sektor forks that have gone straight back as the pic on Merlin's website showed alloy stanchions and these had steel ones. 2.2kg!

Nearly all the bits have arrived for my new build. It's taken long enough that I reckon a new XT 1x11 set up would be a cheaper option than having bought all the stuff required to to 1x10 with a 42t. Hey ho.

Yeah, just think, all that effort and expense to end up with what is effectively a bodge and still leaves you short of the gear range that sticking a granny ring on would produce

I'd agree but the chainset is a single. :???:

Hope it rides nicely as I'm beginning to think I should've bought a Stache instead.

New shimano M089 shoes. M088s split down the side after about 10,000 miles! Good innings.

Titanium frying pans , 2 x 900ml 125 gms 16cm and 1 x 1.2ltr 148gms 20cm .
They took a while to come "over a month " but they got here eventually .

2 questions.

1/ Why so many?

2/ Why Ti? It doesn't generally lend itself to frying pans, even when coated.

1. One for a mate ,one for me and the larger one for if the misses comes on a wild camp / hike.

2. Easier to stir fry in a wide pan rather than say a trek 900 and Titanium is fine for stir fry type cooking so long as the burner is wide enough for the pan ....frying eggs is not brill but so long as the heat is not too high its manageable.
Why Ti ...well you like what you like and I've been looking at these for ages .
I suppose its the same with all Ti cookware its light strong but not the best for boiling water of cooking food because of its poor heat conductivity , typically Ally or Stainless give a more even heat spread but given a choice I would choose Ti every time as I just like it.

Don't get me wrong, I've a rather big soft spot for Ti too, just never heard of anyone having good experiences with frying pans ... be interested to hear how you get on.

After the disappointment of the OEM steel stanchioned sektors I returned (Merlin's ad had alloy ones pictured), I ordered some SIDs from Evan's clearance section. Next day delivered they are proper retail ones in a box with pump & spares. Also different to their pic but in a good way. They've got black not gold stanchions. :-bd

A lovely big box from DHL arrived this morning with my name on it

Finally got myself a real mountain bike, in a last season sale

Deore/SLX 10 speed

AVID hydraulics

Rockshox soloair

First bike with air suspension and what a difference compared to SR suntour spring-on-a-stick, the poplock is very handy too
Geometry feels very comfortable XC style,

Off for its first proper test ride tonight, 12 miles off-road to test it out :)

B'Twin 560

People say alot about decathlons bikes, but my BTwin Road bike has done 1000 miles with not a single mechanical
And 500 miles on cheap cheap mtb running tourney and v brakes
Cant beat their value.

They've been good to me so far, I'm not the most aggressive but I do ride every single day

Are the lowers still made of cheese (I.e. twist super easy due to braking force)? ;-)

Sorry for the rant, around here people turn their nose up at anything that isn't lapiere or Marin, or full suspension....or FOX...

No idea, what they'd think of some of you riding rigid 29ers or fatbikes

I'm very glad to say that I've never encountered any 'bike snobbery' amongst the bikepacking World. There's certainly some nice / expensive / niche bikes floating about but in my experience, the owners appreciate ALL bikes no matter what make, model or how much they cost ... long may in continue :-bd

Here, here to long may it continue.

In 30 years of offroad riding and owning a mere 12 mtbs during that time (2 of those for super short times but that is another story) some of my best adventures were on the cheapest bike of the lot!

Raleigh Maverick from circa '85 with 5 friction shift gears, side pull brakes and steel rims (interesting combo in the wet) and centre ridge tyres.
