Just by chance I weighed my front bag this morning and it came in at 1.86kg. In it I have

- Sleeping bag (Alpkit Pipedream 400)
- Bivibag (Borah)
- Larger Thermarest (Neoair)
- Waterproof footprint (polythene sheet)
- Beanie

All this with a heavyweight Ortlieb dry bag - I wanted to guarantee my sleeping bag stays dry in the worst of weather
I can go lighter - recon I can save 500g by using by my new Cumulus quilt and smaller mat. This also saves some space as it packs smaller

I never used to be like this. I always used to pack and ride and not bother too much about the weight
Now Its a consideration between required performance, packed space and weight
Buying new gear has just made packing harder as it has given me more choices to consider

Sorry, can't weigh my stuff (I have a reputation @ WRT Weigh-in to uplhold though ) as I'm at work for the day, need to tweak bike (that is still filthy!) and I haven't even slightly started packing yet

go to loft where stuf is, throw stuff in a pile in living room the evning before , stuff in to dry bags, put on bike , throw bike in car ... hope bike still works normally will as single speed ! done

My bike currently has no brakes, no tyres, no chain and no shifters... will be interesting to see if I can even start before Saturday night.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid I'll end up doing. Of late it really hasn't been my special occasions bike. It even has a scratch now!

Right then, just off to catch the Orient Express (oh hang on, that's eastwards isn't it, completely the wrong direction. I'll need a re-think already and I haven't even gone anywhere yet) to Caersws. I'm mildly concerned because Panda is coming too and they don't allow livestock to be transported on trains any more sadly.

And no tittering about my "high rise" baggage either please, it's all carefully calculated and takes ages to get right - that's my story & I'm sticking with it. It's only 2.2kg total up front anyway, and same on arse end. Winter sleeping gear, and I'm still flapping about taking too much junk.

No weighing for me, just taking what I think I need +1.

Usual bag and clothes on bars and shelter/mat on back with tools etc in middle.

Hopefully Reg will keep the pace convivial so weight won't be too much of a factor.

Yeah, though annoyingly I've damaged a seal now (not that it was working before, clearly). Time for a new headset methinks. Shitty, because I only just bought new bearings.

Is that on the Canyon, Rich? Didn't think it rained that hard a couple of Fridays ago! Then again, I was passed out in my palace...I wouldn't have known.

Old faithful. I've neglected it pretty badly since the last ride (where it pissed me off due to brake / gear issues).

I currently have the fork and brakes on, just starting to work on the gears.

Have an hour left before I give up and kit up the race bike.

Glad I'm not the only one packin' late. Luggage is on...but stuff is still drying on the rack. I'll probably slap it all on in the AM.

Had to bleed the damn front brake after doing the cable shortening... then I realised that my tyres have no goop in them. Switching over to the race bike. :(
