Can I join you

I assumed you would be, if you can drag yourself away from buying stuff!

Yes please. I'm pretty busy till mid may and my next 2 weekends are full, but I might be able to sneak out with you
I have experience bivvying on Mersea Island beach and can share knowledge on that one (that will be beneficial I suspect and stop us getting wet

)

Hi all,
I've just got myself a GoPro after being inspired by Ian's excellent video of the HT550.
I thought I'd give it a practice this weekend on the Trans Cambria way.
I only got past Rhayader before the battery ran out! I reckon all in all 15-20 mins of footage at the most.
Are the batteries that sh*t or am I missing something? I was in Protune mode so I expect that'll eat the batteries a bit quicker. Anybody have any experience?
Cheers, Ed.

Hi Ed - If the batteries are new, they might take a couple of cycles before you get good run times.
I swapped to my second battery at the start of Day 3 on the HTR, after about 90 mins of recording. I saw tests that suggested the new Hero3+ battery would last 1:50 in a single shoot test, so I was getting close enough to that with lots of shorter clips.
Some tips/settings:
Turn wifi off
I used the one button operation, so less fiddling about with settings
I think I have protune off - seem to recall file size is larger
I don't use a LCD back screen thing - not sure if you had one or not, but it would sap battery power too.
Take two spare batteries (plenty of non-GoPro versions on Amazon)

Cheers Ian,
I'll get a couple of spare ones. I used protune because I thought that after editing it would be better (raw vs jpg analogy), if it's chewing the batteries I won't bother!
Just out of interest what settings did you use for HT550, the quality seemed great.
Any tips/secrets from your workflow post editing at all?
Ed.

It must be processing something extra, as well as writing more data to the card, so its got to use some extra juice. I'll perhaps do some tests, so if I notice a difference in either image quality or battery run-times.

Funny you should ask

I'm glad I asked now
Shooting in 1440, simple yet so obvious now someone's pointed it out! I'll have plenty of fun playing around to see what works.
Looking forward to part 2.

Wasn't sure quite in which thread to post this, but here's the second (and final) instalment of "The Making Of" my HTR video:

I thought this sort of fit in this thread, I really should have milked it more but hey...
A mate of mine is a pretty hardcore video editor (he was out in Brazil putting together packages of the world cup) and final cut pro trainer but he also writes for Mac world. Anyway he wrote a review of a new final cut pro version and took some screen shots. Check it about half way down. :D

Ian and yourself have set a high bar, love your edit and choice of music on that Kinver video.
Is the multiple picture effect standard with FCP or do you use a plug-in?

In terms of cinematography yes, but I think theres also a lot you can take from Daves HTR video. Not as polished, but still very entertaining.
I wouldn't be afraid of posting anything. We all like a good story

All standard FCP, just "creative cropping".

That was exactly my point when I commented on Dave's video. Next new video I shoot (still got 2 in the edit queue

) will have some talking in...

As there are more than one categories can we have more than one entry?

I don't see why not, although you won't be able to submit a video to a specific category.

Ahh OK, that actually makes it better. Just throw in whatever you got come the day and see what people think.

Shirley it can only be one entry per person?
Otherwise you could have hundreds of entries?

I figure we might need all the entries we can get.

I also think that given the time / effort involved there won't be too many 'extra' entries.

Right.....
I had hoped that my entry into this prestigious competition would be bigger, better and more polished than this offering but.....
Unfortunately time, work and family restrictions have meant that I'm lucky to have have been able to make anything at all.
Here it is, enjoy:
Edit:

The first cards have been put on the table
And I like it, thanks. Big scenery and a great soundtrack gave it something which ticked my box, well done
