Yes please. I'm pretty busy till mid may and my next 2 weekends are full, but I might be able to sneak out with you

I have experience bivvying on Mersea Island beach and can share knowledge on that one (that will be beneficial I suspect and stop us getting wet )

Hi all,

I've just got myself a GoPro after being inspired by Ian's excellent video of the HT550.

I thought I'd give it a practice this weekend on the Trans Cambria way.
I only got past Rhayader before the battery ran out! I reckon all in all 15-20 mins of footage at the most.

Are the batteries that sh*t or am I missing something? I was in Protune mode so I expect that'll eat the batteries a bit quicker. Anybody have any experience?

Hi Ed - If the batteries are new, they might take a couple of cycles before you get good run times.

I swapped to my second battery at the start of Day 3 on the HTR, after about 90 mins of recording. I saw tests that suggested the new Hero3+ battery would last 1:50 in a single shoot test, so I was getting close enough to that with lots of shorter clips.

Some tips/settings:
Turn wifi off
I used the one button operation, so less fiddling about with settings
I think I have protune off - seem to recall file size is larger

I don't use a LCD back screen thing - not sure if you had one or not, but it would sap battery power too.
Take two spare batteries (plenty of non-GoPro versions on Amazon)

It must be processing something extra, as well as writing more data to the card, so its got to use some extra juice. I'll perhaps do some tests, so if I notice a difference in either image quality or battery run-times.

A mate of mine is a pretty hardcore video editor (he was out in Brazil putting together packages of the world cup) and final cut pro trainer but he also writes for Mac world. Anyway he wrote a review of a new final cut pro version and took some screen shots. Check it about half way down. :D

In terms of cinematography yes, but I think theres also a lot you can take from Daves HTR video. Not as polished, but still very entertaining.

All standard FCP, just "creative cropping".

I had hoped that my entry into this prestigious competition would be bigger, better and more polished than this offering but.....

Unfortunately time, work and family restrictions have meant that I'm lucky to have have been able to make anything at all.
