Same thoughts and deeds regards fires etc.
I just 'worry' consider the being moved on possibility. Does that happen much?
Obviously not in the farmers garden etc! :-D

You just need to be sensible. Pitch up late and leave early, make sure you can't see any houses or farms from your pitch, keep lights to a minimum and pick a spot far enough back from tracks / paths that anyone on them can't see you.
In reality what's the worst that can happen? You're asked to move, you apologise, pack up and move on ... but I've never known it happen.
Good to know :) Does seem obvious when listed but good advice often does!
And the fact that folk aren't being moved on adds confidence :)
Many thanks folks!

Exactly this.
A bivi looks so minimal that even if you do get seen, so long as theres not rubbish lying around its unlikely that you would get and bother for it.
Ok, I'm even more set to come to this one. I think it's easiest one for me to get to, the scenery will be way better than Essex, and I think due to holiday commitments from my coursework partner on the coursework submission I thought might be a pain, I have a pretty good chance of making this one.
Also FLV - I'd like to have a play with your etrex 20/30 if that's ok?
Ok so in the geek corner we will have zippy and greenmug
I will probably be asked to move on as I do like a nice fire - especially in winter, but thats ok happy to bivi alone crying into my mulled wine feeling warm

I may not make it yet. As it stands its my weekend with my kids so unless theres a change around I'll be warm and cosy in my house on the other side of the snake

I like fire too :D
I spent new years once up kinder scout, we had some sparklers to celebrate...visibility was only about 2 metres, so I suspect we might be able to sneak a small fire somewhere non flammable 8-) (Shhhhhhh).
Might also need to sort a bike out in time, the BB200 on one of my bikes, and this weekend riding round Afan and Bikeparks wales has meant both MTB's need some TLC (as do my legs )
I'll be riding down from Halifax if anyone wants to join me (about 50/50 on/off road on the Cross bike). I'm hoping Cutgate will be passable, but i'll worry about that later :?
I'm going to have to pass on this one I'm afraid :(
In amongst my list of reasons include having to pay my current employer £2.5k because I'm changing jobs and need to pay for my masters course myself (so needless to say, I'm skint now), and then the masters course itself needs some time given to it, so essentially fun stuff like riding, sorting the bike out and travelling to more interesting things is going to take a back seat for a while.
Hi guys,
Just trying to get a feel for the weekend :)
What's the normal train of events for the evening?
Hoping to make it. Do we meet at a pub in evening and then ride to spot and set up?
Have grub and tipple and banter at spot?

Yes, basically ride to the pub based on your own route. Long/short on your own or tag along with others.
Pint, banter, crisps in the pub while people arrive. We'll decide a bivi spot based on the weather how further people want to ride.
Pitchup, banter and a tipple or two.
Make your way home on Sunday morning.
Looks like me and Keiracon will be heading in from the North and i'm sure people will be heading in from other directions :D
Cool, cheers guys.
Time will be tight so will be driving quite close or even to the pub meet from Nottm once confirmed where.
Assuming close to ladybower as mentioned, would you normally łeave car at pub? Or are there other recommended spots to leave car overnight? Will a PMessage be better for this info? Not sure on what gets shared on posts, for none members to see etc. Not paranoid, honest! :-D

I have i nice 10 mile route from the outskirts of Sheffield if you fancy a bit of a ride to the pub (and another 20 miles route from Hayfield for anyone who might be interested)
Personally i wouldnt leave a car around Ladybower/pub over night it may not be overly safe.
Otherwise there are a couple of villages nearby where you'll be able to safely stash your car overnight if you use a bit of judgement
Lovely, Chew :)
Would that ride in be with you? Possible meet at what time approx if it is?
It's a hectic weekend so getting options in early to get best chance of making it :)
