Yes it's a shame his tracker went blank at that point as that is the sort of situation where you want everyone to see that you are doing things properly. I wondered if Kai Edel might have met him on the way back to the trail - if he did then he could vouch for him I suppose.

Part one for Lael
Sounds great, I can't see how they could be accused of helping in anyway from that.

That was what I thought too.

I cannot see anyway they would be as stupid as print anything that would incriminate them

One of those i can see both sides of this debate but I do accept they have taken measures to control and monitor what they do to make sure there is nothing untoward [ though I still think repeatedly seeing a familiar face over the days will lift your spirit ]

Say what you want about support, etc. but it does provide us folks on the sofa some cracking images to live vicariously through! :-bd

Anyone else notice the running shoes in the photo of Lael at McD's in Fernie? Just carrying them for Koko and then ditching them, or taking them all the way?

Also, Alexandera Houchin is ahead of the women's record on ss with what look to be casual shoes and cut-off jeans?!

I just watched this, boy she doesn't seem have much stuff. It's giving me more ideas on how to slim down my kit.

mm interesting set up- I assume she wont use it much and not in sub standard weather]
Sleeping bag,nope
Air bed - Nope
Tent- noare there lots of bothy type options or hotels en route?
Bivvy bag-just about
Cooking - no- the distances she covers she must hit a resupply spot every day mind
Lots more electronics , batteries, dynamo than i would ever take on a bike ride

Kit choice is certainly a personal choice.

Question for the veterans who've watched this year on year... is this the most exciting and mad its ever been??
2012 was a good year Ollie Whally and Craig Stappler, 2016 was intriguing as there was a very strong field including some familiar names and both the geared and SS records where set. But the best was 2015 where Josh Kato pipped JP and Neil Beltchenko with a few other side stories including Lael setting the ladies record, but being hampered by mud. This year is shaping up to be pretty good as well!

Thanks for that. Its edgw of the seat grippinh stuff is it not... just following dots. Other day my boss (an indian lady) asked if I'm watching the cricket. I'm of Pakistani origin and didnt even know it was Pakistan V India  i pretended to be overly excited about it and made a few bad comments here and there

If I'd told her what kind of stuff floats our boat she'd have been shocked :geek:

Anyway I've gotta go.. I've got dot watching to do (whilst the paint dries  )

Lael seems to have started the climb out of Helena, then dashed back. Wonder what was going on there?

She was first woman home last year. She rode the entire thing in high leg army boots. This is a pic of her last year:

Alexandera Houchin is a phenominal rider and her blog is worth a read https://alexandherrastro.wordpress.com.

Currently 2nd woman. Only 50 miles behind Lael and 14th overall. Also first singlespeeder overall running 36/19 gearing.

Wow, that's a higher gear than I run on my unloaded bike, on the Isle of Wight

I have done a hilly off-road century on it but I wouldn't be able to do it day after day for 2700 miles even without kit. Knowing how hard that must be to push that big a gear on a loaded bike I think her ride is as impressive as any of the leaders and maybe more so :-bd

This and the HT550 thread (and obviously riders and you lot) have inspired me to go full retard and try my first ever ITT as well as first ever 140 offroader in the form of the Peak200 :-bd

Thanks all (and them there riders)... Hopefully mtegs wont drop off and I won't cry (or scratch)..

That’s on a 29’er too, which works out at about 55 gear inches. That’s tough!!

So Riders in positions 5-9 are in the same place overnighting in Butte
Wonder whats going on in Josh's head as he was up there with the leaders, but has slipped back to be caught up by the chasing pack

Daves getting in some solid days riding in, and keeping up with sleep too - Go Dave :-bd

I've 39/20 on my winter hack bike so she's riding a gear not that much easier than that! Apparently has a 17 day target.

Sofiane and Lael are currently pretty close to their respective record dots. Most of the leaders' trackers haven't pinged for a while but it is 2:30am at the moment so not much update. Sofiane's last update looked like it was near Polaris at about 10:30 last night
