OK, here's my setup for tomorrow's BB300. Also posted in Shaf's thread in the MYOG(?) forum.

Image

Salsa Spearfish.

Saddle bag: bivvy gear (quilt, mat, bivvy bag, Gatewood, merino base layer)
Frame bag: tools, spares, beer can stove and fuel, small mug, evening food.
Top tube bag: food
Stem cells: food, camera, glasses.
Loop bar bag (hard to see): battery for light on bars, phone, cash.

Spare clothes (not many) will be in a camelbak along with a couple of litres of water. I've been doing my long rides with the Camelbak so I'm used to it.

Have a Hope Vision 2 on the bars and a helmet mounted Joystick. The Hope is powered by a 4 cell battery from MTB Batteries. Just made sure that the Joystick is on the right setting (ref the Diablo thread).

Spare clothes are mainly extra gloves, a thermal top, buff and a spare pair of socks.

I had my puffy with me, some leg warmers and thicker gloves, but thankfully it wasn't too cold when I did it so I didn't need any (7c at its lowest).

My first BB ride so not sure what to expect.....what could possibly go wrong???
The route is very similar (well it covers quite a bit of the same general area) as my first BB200 in 2016 and apart from the last 10km it was pretty straightforward. Think slightly muddier version of the Dales and you won't be far wrong. In fact this year's route is not too dissimilar to Stuart Rider's YD200 routes.
mmmmmm first of all I've only looked at and loaded the 300 which might be a schoolboy error!

Good luck to everyone who's riding this weekend.
May your bottom brackets last longer than mine!

See you all early doors tomorrow, driving over for 7ish. It’s been over 12 months since I’ve used all my bikepacking gear, have moved house as well in that time. Bike, clothes and shoes are in the van. Anything else I forget I’m sure I’ll make do without!

Defo attempting the 200, haven’t got the miles in the legs this year to aim for 300silliness. Getting the black badge last time four years ago destroyed me haha

Escape Goat wrote: Fri Nov 05, 2021 12:04 pm I contemplated going to the Wynnstay, but I'm going to be good and just park up in the van and relax for the night. I've not drank for two weeks. Not really something to boast about, more reason why I've decided against it. I wouldn't be able to control myself to not just have one and feel sick the next day.
If the October weekend was anything to go by, all your missing is a nice pint Tetley's "Best", Tetley's Dark Mild being off. Someone opted for a coke and orange juice instead. I guess that's what counts for a cocktail in Llanbrynmair.

Good luck everyone riding.

Well, I’ve arrived. First one here (at least in the car park). Scoped out the Bivvy options; the Wendy house was a bit small, but they’ve put up a lovely wooden covered pergola thing round the back, so chances are you’ll find me in that tonight :-bd

Nigh on 20,000 views for this thread now. Not bad going considering we're still not talking about what we're, er, not talking about  Goodness knows what innocent bystanders make of it all.

Best of luck to all you lovely mad people.

I assume given everyone would have started by now that we're OK making our rides public?

Can't see it being of much advantage to anyone to stop on route and check my Strava.

Everyone underway (unless they've turned up very late). Weather's somewhat wet and windy and quite a bit colder than it was back in Oct, so it'll be interesting to see how people get on in comparison.

Anyway, yes no reason why we can't now share our Oct rides, thoughts, observations, etc.
