Just been stung £16.10 for customs...

Aces.

Likewise but I liked the fact I gave £8 to the Royal Mail after paying $27 post and packing. I think I know what that song "Shot by both sides" refers to now.

I could probably work it it out approximately from the $ price and thecdidcussipn, but wasn't sure if the £8 charge was included in the £16.10 so...

What was the total purchase cost for the Kestrel bivvy please?
Not so much a gravel grinder.... more a gravel (mud and tarmac) groveller...

$60 + $27 P&P then add your £16.10 customs (includes the £8 RM aspect) - So depends on exchange rate. Around £90 I guess.

Really annoyed and sorry that I posted it. :-L
Also check that you did actually get refunded.
I paid with paypal and quickly got an email saying that my order had been cancelled and a refund issued.
4 days later I dont have a refund yet. Paypal is great at this sort of thing though and I'm certain I wont lose my money.

Customs and courier charges done to death in previous (fairly old threads). It stings but that's the "price" of buying direct outside the EU (lets not get into Brexit!). You're effectively importing.

IIRC couriers / carriers are responsible for the duty or goods. The import duty etc isn't too bad on small items but can easily be doubled by the "handling charge". Again, it stings, but unrealistic to expect them to do it for free.

There's the odd fiddle around it by declaring as "gifts" / repairs / warranty returns etc but that can either be an outright lie or something you may have to actively demonstrate (carriers often assume worst case i.e. import charges apply whatever). It's also a bit of a lottery from some countries and whether you get hit.

I long resigned to it otherwise it'd be like railing against at the tides

Be interested to see how you all get on with the Kestrels as I think mine's on the small side (I like mat inside bag).

Mine's certainly smaller than my Borah which itself is huge. I think even Stu agrees (as a POrG ) that they're one of the "smaller" bivi's. Somewhere there's a pic of several bags hanging off Stu's washing line or something which gives a good feel for sizing. My google-fu is weak today though.

Mleh. You'll be reet

Let me know. I usually sleep with mat outside bag so unlikely to be a problem for me.

They are small Colin, I can't get my doss bag and Matt in there..
Will give it a go in anger with the Matt outside, but after that, if I can't get on with it, it's all yours...

I have no idea why, but I don't seem to get their emails any more. Which is annoying as they're one of the few people I actually like sale notifications from.

If you delete them too many times without clicking through they end up in junk. I noticed the same thing and found them all in junk, just had to mark them as not junk and they started arriving again.

Sadly not. They literally stopped sending them for some reason. I even tried to resubscribe to no avail.

Do you really want bulky self-inflating mats?

No, but I am slightly desperate! I ordered two of the Hyperlites that you reviewed last year and the numpty courier lost them today. He delivered them to the wrong house somewhere but he doesn't know where. They were the last two that I can find online at something less than stupid price. We fly out for a wee trip on the 9th of March and I need tapered mats to fit in my new Trekker tent.

Would these be tapered enough?

They also list these if you don't mind 3/4.

Thanks Stu, it's hard to tell as they don't publish the width at the foot, but it's possible. 840g though!
The guy at the shop I bought the hyperlites from is going to phone round his suppliers on Monday to see if he can find me a couple of replacements, if not I will have to go for something like those Vangos I guess.

A little while ago I was asking about down sleeping bags and Stu linked to a Mountain Equipment one that was a very good price at Taunton Leisure. While I was thinking about it they sold out, but I got an email from them today saying that they have one back in stock (presumably a customer return). I have since found something else so if anyone wants it, then its all yours...
