It might be cheap though and 1 minute with an allen key will sort it!

I can only imagine what the toe overlap must be like. Seeing things like that does sadden me because you can half guarantee that the culprit now believes Arkose to be a poorly handing death-trap.

Q&A: Can people from Wales go to England to drink?
Ha! My grandad used to drive from Cardiff over the border into England for a pint on Sundays!

When I was 15 I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of “getting to know you” questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes.

And he went WOW. That’s amazing! And I said, “Oh no, but I’m not any good at ANY of them.”

And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: “I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.”

And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.

Disc Trucker out.... puppy in.... seems a fair swap  .

I was going to park this in the drinkypoos thread....

.... but then realised there's three, no four, cheery - well, amusing to me - related things.

I was shopping for The Hippopotamus (*) and the can fell into the basket on the way round. Cheers Ma!

Talking of relations reminds me that I found a photograph of my great great grandmother Vann whilst looking at some family photographs with my parents today. Only one photo of her and none of any other g g gparents so it's quite a treasure. She looks a bit like Queen Victoria actually (**).

And talking of shopping, also on the way round I spotted some snacks called 'Deli PITA chips' PITA chips? Are you sure, Mr/Ms Marketing Person? Cheered me up anyway.

(*) Mrs Perrin's mother.........

(**) Quite a good game for Cheery Friday if you're bored. 'What actor/ress does your Relative X look like?'. I'll give you: My nan = Thora Hird, Grandma = Margaret Rutherford, Grandfather = Stan Laurel, Mother = Valerie Singleton, Dad = Peter Davison, Mrs Perrin = Kate Bush (***) (in my dreams!). Go on then.....

(***) Morticia / Angelica Huston sometimes too.....

My brother looks like the police man cyborg out of Terminator 2

My Dad looks like Steve McQueen

My Grandpa looked like Fred Dibnah, he was also from Yorkshire and built steam trains, possibly the best grand dad ever.

<waves> That looks quite nice 'Monkey. Surely it's rude to talk/type with your mouth full though

There's actually something rather fun about eating alone in a packed restaurant. It really baffles all the other punters. The trick is to look totally confident and happy in your own company rather than give the air of some billy no mates saddo. The image is instantly undermined if you fall back on any 'props' such as a book or newspaper. Just totally ignore anything and everyone around you whilst giving the impression of evident pleasure from the slow consumption of your meal and drinks. Even better if between courses you just sit serenely looking at nothing, with a very slight enigmatic smile on your face. I've carried it off a few times but it takes quite a bit of concentration.

I have to confess that this beer is not, er, fully living up to expectations. It's a bit like eating seaweed covered in chocolate (something that's probably on your Vietnamese menu!)

There's a flaw. Fuk 🤪

Sticky ribs demand you lick your fingers which is unfortunate given the current propensity for cleaning hands frequently with all kinds of gels and compounds 🤢

More gin'll sort that out 😁

Just finished rebuilding the far wall. Looking at maps the original was at least 170 years old so it's done OK. I've memories of my dad repairing bits of the nearer wall and me, as a toddler, helping him with the small stones used for the heart/filling.

All the "lumps" in the grass in the foreground are old stone built land drains, probably of similar vintage to the walls. Now that must have been a lot of work as you need to dig a trench at least 600mm wide and deep before even starting to construct the drain. The surrounding ground has both dried up and therefore shrunk plus some soil will have washed down the drains over the years so rather than being below plough depth the drains are proud of the general level of the field.
Nice. I've recently developed a bit of a thing for a nice dry stone wall - should I be worried 🤔?

You'll be ok until the relationship hits a rocky patch and your advances get stone-walled.
