when will the full list of times be put up, Stu??

As soon as I've rebuilt the kitchen wall that I've just demolished in an attempt to discover wht there's no cold water in the kitchen.

In the meantime, here's a quick analysis on different routes taken over the first hike a bike section west of Coedy, and times taken from leaving the track to the gate on the far side:
Steve Large (pink line) - 52 mins
Me (green line) - 54 mins
Alan Goldsmith (red line) - 1hr 9 mins
Dave Barter (blue line) - no time, suspect GPS data.

maybe water hates you. like moses. maybe that's why the route seemed good to you?

I was all over the place at the beginning of that clearly!

you can see where my garmin crashed on the map view before the first hike-a-bike bit, and i went a mile or so down the fireroad. duh.

With these long hike a bike sections (can't imagine carrying my bike for an hour) I wonder whether a set of rucksack straps and some padding could be clipped onto the frame to make for a more comfortable carry. I would think over an hour long carry the energy saved would be worth it.

Although I would guess it must have already been done.

They have to carry the bikes across the Grand Canyon - as riding's forbidden in there and tires aren't alowed to touch the ground

At the moment it seems that the Canelos are more of an issue on the AZT if you don't like bush whaking.

The only issue with carrying the bike on straps is that to get through the tussocks of hell the bike needs to be up above the 3 foot high ferns, grass, gorse, heather, so it really needs to be on your shoulders (if you're a shortarse like me) or at least carried cyclocross style with arm through the frame. Straps would generally hang the bike somewhere nearer the ground, where the tussocks of hell would grab it and not let go until you're lying on your back on top of it, unable to move whilst sinking into a boggy hole and getting scratched to bits by gorse and brambles.

Ian, I like the trace, if it helps Tom Webb took an identical route to me and was exactly the same time. He even has a photo of me up to my knees in finest Welsh bog sinking under the weight of my bike. I may have been giggling (or was it crying)?

It was a bit off route, trust me to no advantage. I veered too far left then had to thrutch back across more tussocks and climb over a wall ended up prolonging the bike-a-hike.
