I'd held off posting a couple of photos so that it all remained a surprise.

Heres a bit of what they have to come:

I'm out. Headed home from Edale.

Enjoyed the first loop. But had a strong feeling that I was about to really not enjoy much more.

I had joked about being well rested, but it was my undoing in the end. Not enough miles in the legs... Not to worry, that can be fixed!

I quit at Edale as well.

I think that's one of the hardest and probably one of the best days out that I've had.

Very muddy, really difficult to get any momentum even on the long downhill bit to woodhead tunnel.

A cracking route and definitely one for me to work on.

Nice to meet some new faces and good luck to those still out there.

Paul.

I assumed I'd be the first retiree, beat me to it guys! Struggled from early on, just didn't have it in my legs.

I bailed out at Barber Booth. Was in 2 minds then when the Alfine slipped coming up to the T-junction it made my mind up!

What I saw of the route was fantastic though, thanks for spending the time putting it together! Will have to come back again, that's for sure.

Cheers,
John

And Richpips. Followed him down a rocky descent on his CX bike. Now there was a lesson in bike handling, a pleasure to watch!

So my cunning plan to have a tough 'intro' loop returning you very close to the start as a physchological test seems to have been effective then :-)

Conditions weren't great, certainly worse than I was hoping for! A lot that should have been ridable wasn't. I suspect the next section would have been a little more ridable though, most of the PBW is on reasonable ground. Although there is a couple of fairly horrid sections though farms...

Dave's time is looking like an even better effort than I first thought.

Be interesting to see how mark, rich and John get on

I jacked at Parsley Hey.

Sore knees, and conditions meant I was walking far more than I should have. I "may" not have had the ideal bike.

Mark was having some issues, but continued on ~9pm from Parsley I gave him my food, as he'd be unlikely to make the chippy in Bakewell.

My money was on Mark McP (last seen on Cut Gate) I knew he'd ride away from me. I held Ian off to near the bottom of Cut Gate, We said "see you on the Longendale", but my bar bag mount snapped, so I wasted some time there moving my stuff into my pockets and saddle bag.

I was surprised how close together people were at Edale (other than the non faffing D Faff Master)

Hopefully trail conditions look up for them and they crack on through the night then. Gratton will slow them down a little but after that it's pretty reasonable, with the exception of cave dale

I've just arrived at home. I turned of the route near Alport. I'd had no brakes for a while. Just metal plates the spares didn't last long either....

So rode to Bakewell on the road then had a kebab, chips and coke. Lovely :)

Then rang the wife I told her I was coming home. Rode back to Barber Booth where I'd parked via Monsal Head , Foolow, Bradwell, Hope and then into Edale Valley.

Did 167km in total. Finished just after 11 ( I turned off the route near Alport at 8.45)

I'd like to try it again and finish it but think I'll wait till summer!

If anyone finishes today they well and truly are made of grit.

Another failure here! I turned off route at the far end of gratton dale about 11.30. Rich very kindly gave me some extra food At parsley hay as I was running low and unlikely to make bakewell before closing. Although I realised this meant I was no longer self supported, I thought I'd try and finish. A combination of no brake pads and some grit in my shorts helped my decision to scratch. Gratton dale is horrible which didn't help either. I cycled home to sheffield via youlgreave, bakewell, calver and the grouse climb to give a distance of 160ish km. stood up most of the way back from bakewell as that grit is abrasive stuff! Definitely have another go on drier conditions as it is a great route! Well done for putting in such a good time last week Dave!

Thats a good point! If approached as a two day ride it may well be fun! (it was anyway but I think yesterday the whole route could have caused a serious sense of humour failure)

I think another attempt in drier conditions later in the year!
