There's no excuse (other than financial) for the way the food industry operates and I think for the most part we're all well and truly hoodwinked by the time we're able to make our own decisions but.....patterns can be broken, the information is out there for anyone interested enough to seek it and so I don't let myself off the hook just because I got shafted early on.
