Different reasons
Stood in awe at these guys 75miles into the Lakeland 100 fell race and were moving only slightly slower than I was in the 50miler. Another level of mental toughness to me.

And, this weekend I took my wife out for her first ever bikepacking/bivi trip. I brought her rum and coke to ease the pain

Looks like everyones been busy while I've been off galavanting around Scotland (sadly without the bike!), some really good stuff has been posted in here. Here's one of my latest camps with my new Hilleberg Akto and my friends Tarp Tent Scarp.

It's a lovely spot that I don't visit often. Might do a bivi that way soon in the plantation area to the west of the hillFat tyre kicker wrote:@ voodoo_simon, that second pic is one of me n the misses

Another one from Scotland! Six images in this panorama.
For those who don't know the area well, you're looking at Ben Nevis from Meall an t-Suidhe. Think I'm going to have to get myself a print done of this one!

Thanks! I've not actually come across him before (I'm not particularly well educated in the history of photography, or past photographers). Last year I was in over in Glencoe on Sgorr na Cìche (aka "The Pap of Glencoe") facing Sgorr Nam Fiannaidh when I took the photo below. I've basically been getting slowly more and more obsessed with adding drama through black and white processing since. Processing images like this suits the particularly atmosphere low-hanging clouds create really well.Mariner wrote:Great pic.

Never ceases to amaze me how good some people are with their cameras. I would love to have the patience and creativity to take decent photos.

Take your camera with you - shoot often - shoot more - go more places.slarge wrote:Never ceases to amaze me how good some people are with their cameras. I would love to have the patience and creativity to take decent photos.
It's less about patience and more about experiencing what you want your photos to show. I very rarely set up a shot, if ever, I go out and shoot. I'm quite the opposite of patient. I'd never consider myself creative either, I just get myself into positions where things look interesting.
Prime example:
Trudge by Greg.May, on Flickr
I honestly consider this one of the best photos I've ever taken. There was no reason to lug the DSLR out with me on a 20km run in those conditions - but I did. It should have stayed in the waterproof bag - but it didn't. Conditions were everything that you shouldn't want to remember or experience. Thats not creativity or patience - it's persistence and stubbornness :)

Also sign up to a "photo a day" group which forces you to take a different photo each and every day, so you end up looking at your day to day life from different anglesslarge wrote:Never ceases to amaze me how good some people are with their cameras. Re Trudge by Greg May.
I can get that effect on a bright day with the camera on my phone.
