8g micro meths stove + 22g RF now available

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I find that when all you want to do is make a brew or boil some water for a dehydrated meal the majority of stoves are a bit big. If you don't use a pot with a reasonably large diameter much of your heat is lost up the sides of the pot ... to help combat this there's a good chance you'll end up carrying a bigger/heavier pot than you actually need. That might also mean you're carrying a bigger/heavier windshield too.

My answer was this ... a stove sized to work with your average 450ml mug. As you can see it's not very big at 30mm x 32mm and it weighs 8g. It'll boil 300ml in just under 5 minutes and use 10ml of fuel doing it (which is about the right amount of water in a 450ml mug for a good brew).

For comparison, a Whitebox 'Solo' weighs 30g and measures 40mm high x 60mm diameter. An Evernew Ti weighs 34g and measures 42mm high x 71.5mm diameter.

Expect a 'production' model for sale shortly ;)

I'm interested in one as well.

I've never had much success with homebrew coke can stoves, probably due to my cackhanded production, so a cheap, small stove built by someone more professional ;) might put meths back on the options list.

Out of interest, Stu - what sort/type of container have you used to make it?

I tracked down a packaging supplier that supply all kinds of stuff ... as long as you buy in bulk :? So in answer to your question, they're made from new, universal aluminium bottles.

I'm just sorting out a few last bits (dedicated windshield, fuel bottles, etc) then we'll be all set ... expect a week to 10 days, obviously I'll let everyone know.

A 750ml mug would work but it won't be ideal. It's made to suit the 450ml mugs which have a diameter of 80mm regardless of make, the Mytimug is about 95mm.

Just seem to have been doing a lot more running and very limited biking recently plus last time I was on bike the lad I was riding with a Brechfa bust his leg, so mojo has gone flat :(

Hoping to get out on bike on Sat for a bit, I need to get a bivvy trip sorted for August I think.

Pete - fancy a bivi ride towards the end of August? - family hols and a works trip to Morzine mean I'm a bit tied up until then.
