Tangle bags?

Post by restlessshawn »

Looks like I can't afford a proper frame bag so started looking at these. Anyone got a small tangle? Can you get much in it? Annoyingly even a small tangle will mean the bottle cage on the frame is unusable but that's not a deal breaker as I have 2 fork mounted cages.

The Revelate ones?

I have a medium and so far it's held a Supershelter tarp, mug / stove combo and other bits and pieces. Was surprised how much it could hold TBH, in a good way.

Unless you find a second hand one, the Clouded Leopard's that Beth makes aren't dissimilar in price to the revelate offerings after import taxes and shipping.
It'll be custom made around your bottles to make use of the space too.
Check out Ian's bag pictures.

I had a medium on my Salsa Shawn.

In it was: 1st aid kit, maps, cable ties, phone, camera, spare battery, solor powered battery pack, mini tripod, 2 tubes, pump, multitool, levers, patches, pack of jelly babies and about 4-5 snack bars.

It's not because of my dancing either it's because I am covered in a tomato relish.

Small tangle looks like £53 shipped, forgot about import duties and stuff, will I definately have to pay them?

Not a definite but there could be upto £20 import tax and handling charge of £8 from parcel farce.
Factor in £30 to be sure or risk it and be quids in.

depends where you get them. Some vendors are happy to 'gift' them. others not so.

You end up paying the 20% VAT and a £10 handling charge/admin from customs so your looking at another £20 ontop of that.

Restlessnative - I was bothered about using a frame bag and the fact it would stop me from using my bottlecages...I ended up getting a Jandd Frame Pac and can still use two bottles, one a 850ml and the other a 650ml. I've been using it to carry my mealtime time food (for 2 days) and a few snacks. I should put my toolkit in there insead of the snacks though. I had to order the pack from the US but maybe you could find one closer to home?

Another option would be one of the Deuter frame bags. I've no experience of these but if they're built like their bags they should be alright. They also look a lot better than some of the similar bags on Ebay.

Hope you get something sorted, DF.

I just paid £66 for a full bespoke frame bag from Buggy bags. Surely a better option than a tangle bag and no worries about import duties...

frame is a 16" inbred with only bottle bosses on the downtube so I think any kind of reasonable size frame bag means no usable bottle

think I'll hold fire and see what alpkit offer

will check out buggy bags properly but they look pretty heavy?

Indeed. My experience isn't a guarantee, simply that of 2 (or 3?) orders from Revelate they've all been missed.

Don't hate me, I'm not that Carr bloke

I got my Revelate gear from Veloista in Switzerland, though they are shipped from Germany so no VAT etc. Took around 5 days to arrive. Very happy with the service etc.
Check their website for prices.

I have a tangle but haven't got round to using it yet, well made though.
