Cumbria Way... well our version of it

Post by Polisherman »

It's in the diary for 3 weeks time. Leave van in Carlisle and train back from Ulverston.
Suprised how little info. I can find on bike versions of it. No worries it's all pretty straightforward. I think we'll just roadie it until we get to the Northern Fells and then either approach Skiddaw House from either Mosedale or Bassenthwaite.
Can't see much continuous off road much past Coniston, so probably country lanes to finish.
2 days with Mrs Polisherman, and probably camp near Stake Pass.

South of Coniston is Torver, there are bridleways across Torver Low & Blawith Commons that will get you to Gawthwaite on the A5092. From there there's only really the B5281 to get to Ulverston but it's not a nice road to cycle on: fast cars and hedgerows/walls next to the road with no place to get out of the way on the many blind bends. The only real alternative is the road down the east side of Coniston Water as far as Spark Bridge then Penny Bridge and over via back roads west of the A590 to Ulverston.
