At 53lbs I carried too much food & water I reckon. The odd thing is I lifter Elliott Cooper's bike and that felt really heavy and yet listed as 1lb lighter than mine.

I was at 62lbs and I must have had 10lbs of food left at the end of the ride.

I did have a nice big tent and tea and cake.

I was definitely too heavy at 67lbs but then I had a 5lb tent and 2L of water plus a lot of food I didn't eat and an overpacked first aid kit.
I think I can easily shave off 10-15lbs with better planning and less comfort.

Well im in at 58.5 which looked like a little over middle of the field.

I did have a camera, camcorder and mini tripod in that though :) and I actually dropped a few things before the start (after the weigh in). I never took the camcorder in the end.

Other than that I only had about 1lb of food left over.

I dont see where I can shave anymore weight without spending big.

Would be interesting to know how many of the light guys where just eating out. I was @ 49.5 with all my food for the 3 days apart from a child's portion of beans on toast I had as 2nd breakfast on Sunday. I returned with about 300g of snacks I didn't eat.

Having decided to go for a tent I suspect I will just tip over the 50 for next year. My Inbred is 26lb without any gear on so not the best start!

Average weight looks like 53.8984375

26 lb inbred is a good start I'd have said.

My alu Giant 29er is 26.5 lb's when its undressed.

My total weight was 46.5 and that was hammocking in comfort.

This pic didn't include my wingnut

Remove the suspension and the gears. There's 4lb saved straight away. No winking smiley; I doubt the top ten had many gears or suspension between them (I've seen the picture of Ian's 33lb setup and he certainly didn't).

Or you could go to extremes like Chris 'Top Ten' Narborough and remove your rear brake...

I didn't plan on eating out, but I did buy a small amount of food in Llandrillo (eccles cakes, banana, yorkie bar and some flapjack) and then happened to ride past a cafe on one of the CoedyBrenin trails where I got a bowl of soup and a cup of tea more for the feeling of warmth than the calorific content. Everything else I carried, though obviously I hadn't got a stove. I brought back around 2lbs worth of food, though most of that was just bars and gels. All the normal food got eaten and I didn't go hungry.

It would have been heavier, but because I got to the start early I ended up having loads of my tea and cake. I had to re-stock when I got to Carno. :D

To elaborate on my bike weight (37.5 lbs)...I wasn't going super-crazy-light, definitely packed for comfort, although admittedly I do have some fairly lightweight "comfort" kit :-). Stuff I had on board that I'd consider "luxuries"... alcohol stove, pots & fuel, 2 x evening meals, Nemo Gogo Elite hooped bivy, full length Thermarest Neoair, PHD down vest, spare riding shorts etc. I also had enough riding snacks on board to keep me fuelled for a couple of reasonable days in the saddle. I was riding with mates who were taking meals & stoves so I wasn't going to risk changing our route so I could refuel on the way. I think if I'd been riding solo I'd have left the stove etc at home & planned the route around places to buy food along the way. As it was, cooking our evening meals together in a group was fun & I was glad to have the kit.

I think the light weight generally comes down to (of course), bike weight first (21lbs in my case), then how much water you have on board...I only had 2 bottles, around 1.5L, as I knew I could get water along the way easily enough. The weight of all that food really adds up though, which makes the £££ spent on some ultralight kit seem a bit futile (well, perhaps, but I suppose all those little savings add up).

I think also that my temperature tolerance is a notch below Ian's (for example). My sleeping bag is the slightly warmer (and heavier) PHD model, and the bivy I brought on this trip was certainly heavier (and in theory more comfy!). Have to say though, I was rather jealous of my chums with their Laser Comp tents on Saturday night!!

Pretty happy with my weight, 43.5 lb, considering I had 140mm of travel and 30 gears.

We were sharing a tarp and stove and saved weight big time by taking blizzard bags (385g) instead of bivvy and sleeping bag combo. I carried all my food with a bit left over but did stop for an unscheduled pub lunch on Sunday just to get out of the wind and rain for an hour.
Time would be better spent getting the miles in instead of fretting about how many ml of meths to carry...

I can't comment on the others, but my bike at 39lb (5th heaviest) had both! 3x9 gearing and a Reba fork up front. It's generally a reasonably light bike at sub-24lb to start with, but I just took the minimum that I thought I needed and nothing more - no spare clothes or anything (well, one extra pair of socks at 30g). I took a stove (mini-trangia so not especially light) and two meals - I planned on eating out for the other two. Sleeping bag is reasonably light at 640g, and I use an Alpkit Little Kippa childs mat, but my bivvy bag is relatively heavy. I took 2 water bottles - one 600 and one 700 ml, so that's only 1.3kg, or 2.8lb.

I think te main thing which drove the weight down for me was the fact I I kept a prettly religious spreadsheet on the weights of everything when I was planning, and this gave a real insight into it - it was amazing just how quickly the weight piled on if I wasn't careful.

I think I will do this next year for sure. It will be a good opportunity to go through and weigh everything.

Sleeping bags I struggle to find any synthetic bags that are warm and light. I just have a couple of Gelert ones just now. Definately an area I could save some weight.

I weighed the food I brought home @ 542g

I slept in it in dry base layers, socks, a hat and a thin finisterre gilet (bise), with a neoair short. I was warm enough which surprised me given how cold I got on Sunday. The best things about it are the weigh and price, the worst thing is that I found it slightly damp inside in the morning from condensation. The crinkly noise is annoying at first but earplugs weigh virtually nothing and muffle the sound considerably. I'll use it again for sure. To go that light with any other sleeping system you'd probably need to spend at least 10 times as much!
