Goals

Post by ootini »

Has anyone set any goals for the year? I know a lot of you guys are quite experienced and have ridden most of the "big routes", but I've only done a few shortish local routes so I've set myself the following goals for the year, I find it helps keep me motivated.

By March: Triban trail
By May: Sandstone Way
By July: Trans Cambrian Way
By September: Sarn Helen

Whether I'll actually achieve these goals is debatable, but if you don't try....

Doing the winter event (Bach to Bach) this weekend, as much as a check on where my current fitness, or lack of, lies.

Cairngorm Loop (if it hasn't washed in to the North Sea) and the YD300 again, hopefully in a better time now I know how I react to that amount of riding.

After that there's a few of the ITTs I'd like to have a go at.

Raise money for Diabetic research

Ride the London - Paris for charity

Be able to actually ride a Red/Black graded trail confidently (more my partners goal really  )

Ride 5 day + trip living off the bike (longest trip so far only 2 nights)

To ride the whole Gower peninsula, me and the Mrs are planning a B&B coastal tour by bike, more of a getaway than bikepacking really but not everything is a race

Number goals:

Ride 10,000 miles in the year.
Ride 30+ centuries.

In order to achieve that I aim to:

Ride 250 to 300 miles per week until end of May
Ride a really long way mostly off road in June/July
Ride a really long way in a fairly short time mostly off road in August.

No. 1 goal today? Lose this bloody cold!! :???:

Still building this years plan. It's the OH's 50th so she wants the whole year to be dedicated to her. It's mine as well so I might get out on my bike once or twice...... As ever it's a careful balance of biking, family, DIY, weekends away in the van.
Tuscany trail is booked, the Monster Sportive, and the Peak200, Pennine Bridleway and Relentless 24 are goals.

Ride, ride, ride and ride some more.

I'm really enjoying riding at the minute, even if most rides are the same route time and time again

I'm new to bikepacking so to get into the swing of things I want to try and do the bivvy a month challange. Already got a free pass organised for the end of this month!

I'd also like to do the capital trail as an ITT, don't know if my pace will be up to completing it in the allotted time though!

Getting the Dirty Reiver completed is my first goal. After that, get my first overnighter done, still short of a few essentials though. Ride more, going to aim for 8500km after doing 7500 last year. And make sure I enjoy it all, I ride for fun at the end of the day, I don't want to feel like its a chore.
Just seen the Tuscany Trail thread, hmm maybe next year....

Muster the bottle to do CTR.
Convince some people from work to go on a Transalp trip with me.
Do as many of the U.K. mass start events as feasible - at least one!

That's the plan, hence getting a spot tracker. Thought I had all my kit from last year but is already getting expensive!

Should be in a better position to train during this year than I was last year :-bd

Makes sense now. I quite like the idea of doing the 150 someday but would need to get a fat bike first

Holyland challenge? Be ace to do that

Sorry whitestone, was a bit cryptic! The R150 is a fantastic race, highly recommend it (although it did take me about 6 weeks after the race to see that!). Get a fat bike and start saving for 2017, you won't regret it
