New for Loop bar users.
New for Jones Loop bar users ... it's called a Gnarwhal, apparently. Designed for a nice aero tuck or spearing other riders, so a multi-use item

How weird is that?Bearbonesnorm wrote:New for Jones Loop bar users ... it's called a Gnarwhal, apparently. Designed for a nice aero tuck or spearing other riders, so a multi-use item
I was just out for my first training ride preparing for the World Championship Beach Race over in Holland that I've been invited to attend (on my fat bike against pro racers on Monster Cross Beach Racers ) and when down in the aero position today I though, a bar end fitted just on the front of the loop would be great.
I should have ridden to the copyright office on the loop

Re: New for Loop bar users.
I was planning on making a single aero bar extending from my stem as well, clearly it wasn't a unique idea.
Re: New for Loop bar users.
Presumably a fatbike with drop bars....Bearbonesnorm wrote:A what?Monster Cross Beach Racers
Re: New for Loop bar users.
Ever tried riding a slack seat-angle bike in an aero tuck? : ) Great for most bikes though.
And this ..
is one of the greatest things I have ever seen on wheels. Love it.

That Jones bike doesn't have enough cables...
Re: New for Loop bar users.
If he's making a bar end with a double bolt opening (which it must be to go on a loop bar) then great; nobody else does. However, I suspect a bar end with a Jones logo will be priced significantly above my 'oooh lets give that a try' level.

The Dutch riders seem able to race along a beach on normalish cx bikes......Bearbonesnorm wrote:A what?Monster Cross Beach Racers

That's the monsters I was on about, half the weight of my Fat Bike ridden by riders half my age and half my weightjohnnystorm wrote:The Dutch riders seem able to race along a beach on normalish cx bikes......Bearbonesnorm wrote:A what?Monster Cross Beach Racers

I much prefer my friend Scott's setup by Rob English: http://www.englishcycles.com/custombike ... vide-ride/
I will do the same next time I do TD.

The G is for gnar, which is some kind of expression used to imply tough/aggressive. I thinkMpolo wrote:

After thinking up the idea before I saw this post
I found that the metal on the bar ends was malleable enough to stretch over the wrapped bars and I closed them up with longer bolts.
Test ride tomorrow

I have to say John .... rather you than me.I found that the metal on the bar ends was malleable enough to stretch over the wrapped bars and I closed them up with longer bolts.
You may find the aluminium won't take kindly to that much manipulation.

They are not load bearing just for resting on, so should be ok :FingerCrossedIcon:Bearbonesnorm wrote: You may find the aluminium won't take kindly to that much manipulation.

Re: New for Loop bar users.
I quite often rest my forarms on the bars to give my hands a rest and after about 10 mins my neck starts killing me. Fine for a 40k TT but not for anything else
Re: New for Loop bar users.
I have some old profile aero mini clip-ons that have a 2pc split clamp, they have been offered up to the front of my loop bars but never used. I did find I could get into an aero position just by resting on the bar with a sort of arms-crossed position, works ok on road. Just not a nice position to pedal in for me, if the seated position is as comfy as it can be then the aero thing doesn't feel good. Depends on the bike I expect. That English bike looks like it has a good solution with the arm rests further back, can see that being comfier.
Re: New for Loop bar users.
I had this set up on my j bars for a while....it was good, but looked knobby! I then just fitted some tiny power studs to the hooks, which are really good and look ok too....
Re: New for Loop bar users.
John, I'd check the rules for your race as I know a lot of competitions don't allow anything pointy (eg tri-bars) sticking out the front of the bike.JohnClimber wrote:After thinking up the idea before I saw this post

Test ride tomorrow
It does make for a good riding position though
