Blogsites, which ones?

Post by MonkeySpacePilot »

I was thinking of setting up a blog, more as a personal journal rather than for public viewing.

Looking for something nice and easy, where I can do a write up, add some photos, and load the route done onto it. Prefer something where I can put each trip onto a separate page, rather than just a continuous scroll as some seem to.

Not sure if a blogging site is the way forward or if better, or even setting up a basic website, if its easy enough.

What does anyone else do or use?

Links to your own efforts for inspiration would also be good.

Mine is in my Sig, not managed to finish my write up of the two WRTs I've done but my Mach n Back write-up is there.

Any of the blogging sites such as wordpress.com or blogger.com are dead easy to use, and free.

i use wordpress and find it much more customisable (pretty sure that's not a real word) and is suitable for either a blog or simple website.

but.....there're two versions:

1. wordpress.com is the free (hosted by them) version which is limited in terms of what it'll do but is still very good and intuitive to use.

2. wordpress.org is still free but you host the files yourself and so it's more personalisable (definitely not a real word) and is infinitely more flexible.

my blog is in the signature below.

good luck (and ask if you get stuck as i used to do a bit of web design and so might (possibly) be able to assist).

I was hoping to have written a lot more by now :!:

Nice to hear you're doing the WRT . . . I'm really looking forward to it.

Yep I'd say Wordpress is definitely the way to go. If you just want something simple then Wordpress.com is probably enough (and free). I just moved mine from Wordpress.com to self-hosted as I wanted the ability to use iframes & stuff... http://pedalhead.net

Mine's on wordpress.com, and if you pick the right template, you can get a pretty slick looking site.
I generally prefer the look of wordpress blogs to blogspot ones.

That is quite the list!

I recently moved my site from 350.com to wordpress. Find it much better.

Non bike related: http://siroccoverland.wordpress.com/

easy to set up and customise. Like you I didnt want a rolling blog, so its more of a site with a blog page.

bear with on the content, not got the blog rolling yet really.
