Pole feet.
If you're setting a shelter up on soft ground there's a chance your poles may sink a little overnight. This can lead to your shelter becoming a bit flappy or on removing your pole you find the tip has vanished into the earth never to be seen again.
To combat the problem, I've just made 200 of these. 3mm acrylic (pretty much unbreakable) in an 'easy to spot' bright orange colour. Foot will accept both tipped and domed pole ends.

Re: Pole feet.
too heavy
Re: Pole feet.
I use a stem cap. Got plenty knocking about in my spares box.
Edit; if you were really concerned about weight, you could remove the stem cap off your bike at the bivvy spot

I was thinking what off my bike I could use to stop a pole sinking if required. Probably my shoe would be the answer, or maybe some cutlery or something.Ian wrote:I use a stem cap. Got plenty knocking about in my spares box.

What's the diameter of that Stu? I reckon you could get away with considerably less, "soft" ground conditions allowable bearing pressure is like 30kPa.

60mm O/D Zippy ... you could get away with something smaller but I figured smaller = easier to lose. What's the diameter of that Stu?

I was thinking a pair of these would do the trick and only 4g each

Re: Pole feet.
They have a hole right through the middle. I guess they might work if your pole was thick enough.polarcherry wrote:I was thinking a pair of these would do the trick and only 4g each

Re: Pole feet.
They do have a hole through the middle but I'm going to order a pair anyway as the hole looks small and Stu's custom carbon poles are quite thick so I'm hoping they fit nicely in the hole.
