UK trip inspiration

Post by ZeroDarkBivi »

Looks like I have a few days off next week, so have a week to come up with a plan for 4-6 days of riding. Could be a bikepacking tour or a serious of big day loops. Live in the SW and don't want to waste too much time driving, so no further north than the Lake District. Minimal HAB also preferred. Any ideas what would good at this time of year?

A loop of the Isle of Wight could start you off in the south.

Stu put me on to a great sounding route called the north south divide.

described in one of these books - http://www.mtbepicsuk.co.uk/the-books/

i got in touch with the author who did confirm it was reasonably weather proof

Some interesting options there - any steers on gps route files?

I've done the road loop round IOW before - what's the XC option like?

I understand there are a few variations on the Welsh C2C - what would work in the depths of sogginess?

Like the sound of the first part of the N/S divide, but a loop would probably work best, with a safe place to leave the car!

So many options thrown up by internet research, but I know many of them will be a slog in winter conditions! Need some local knowledge to steer me towards the better trails.

How about a TCW double? Your car would be safe enough parked at the west end for a few days and we've not had much rain, so conditions are fairly good at the moment. You've also got bothy options should they be required :-bd

Thanks for the suggestions, but given the weather, I think I'll not be doing any long rides over the next few days! Seem to recall cycling along a stream for sever km of the TCW last time I did it, in summer...
