10 Ways to get consent from the Missus
I was reading the Wear it Pink post and had a wee giggle about asking the wife's permission to wear her pink undies. It reminded me of the first post I ever made on this forum. (I snuck in on Dan's profile) and gave some ideas on how to get consent from the missus. So inspired to give the full inside story - Here it is - http://wp.me/p3yZa1-1ac

Pretty much a guide to life! Think I read once on singletrack (or was it here?!) that a husband couldn't get time away as he was too good with domestic duties/kids and his wife wouldn't cope without him, so I think a balance is needed between being helpful and being depended upon
Also,
#11) Let her have girly weekends away Works like a dream, every time!
And go in fighting
#12) Gently remind her that get gym membership a year is more expensive than your bike habit

#0 - Have a relationship that's nicely balanced, where you talk to each other and let each other know what's going on but don't live permanently in each others pockets. If you're away, you're away; If you're at home, you're at home. How is this not simpler?
I've been with my Better Half for 8 or 9 years now and don't have to 'ask permission'. I often get "so where are you going this weekend?" on a Wednesday or Thursday night as I'm packing my kit up, but it's in the context of working out whether I'm biking, kayaking or anything else rather than a demand to see my hall pass...

I was writing something exactly along these lines. I can't help but feel this blog post is pandering to gender stereotypes, which IMO is a negative thing. I've been married over 10 years now, and don't have to ask permission, we have open discussions, try to give warning where possible, but quite often it's only a day or so, and that's fine, we're independent but together. It's very healthy, others should try it.Pyro wrote:#0 - Have a relationship that's nicely balanced, where you talk to each other and let each other know what's going on but don't live permanently in each others pockets. I'm guessing farawayvisions' post was tongue in cheek

Well I've been married 26 years so didn't bother reading the post. I find many attempts at humour over stereotypes like this are boring and very unhelpful. Which I know will be seen as pedantic and grumpy - tough!
Re: 10 Ways to get consent from the Missus
it works both ways in our house. I've just stayed home with the kids this weekend while the Ian Hodgeson Fell running relays were on and last week bought a my other half a road bike. We don't have 'those' discussions really.
seems to work...

Dee can often be heard to say things like ... "Why don't you f**k off" which I take as permission for another few days away
May the bridges you burn light your way

No children and a wife that cycles She went out with the road club on Sunday and did 75 miles, I got out of bed late and only managed 50
