Coast to Coast Adventure or Similar

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice... I am hoping to go on a MTB adventure over the long bank holiday weekend. I would like to try and do the Coast to Coast off road or something similar and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of either:
- People's blogs who might have done it already
- A map of the route or where might be best to get one - for example can you get OS maps for the entire thing?
- A GPX route for the Coast to Coast

Also if people had any advice on getting to and from (I live in Cambridge and don't have a car) it would be appreciated.

I am thinking of making the an extra long weekend out of the August bank holiday weekend and giving it a go if its of any interest to you?!?
The aim will be to bivy out along the way and make a real adventure out of it.

This has got a detailed route description in with basic maps & route cards.
I might have a gpx of this route but will have to look.

Have you considered the Lakeland 200? Done over 3-4 days at a leisurely pace with maybe some additions would be a good ride.

The start/finish point at Staveley is easily accessible from Oxenholme Station (which is on the West Coast Mainline).
It's a circular route, so any problems would mean it would be relatively easy to return to Staveley via roads & some of the bus services even take bikes.
Tim Woodcock also does a 'Lakeland Loop' guide, although i think the route is slightly different to the Lakeland 200..

Some YHA's have small camping areas & a place to lock the bikes up for the night. Plus all the usual stuff like showers, towels, canteen etc. Good for maybe a night to freshen up, although you may need to book something like that asap as most places on Aug bank hol will be full..

The links above are for a coast to coast not the coast to coast. Depends if you want to follow Tim Woodcocks route or make a few modifications to improve it.

Getting to the start is easy as you can catch the train straight to St Bees. Getting home you'd need to ride 10 miles from Robin Hoods Bay down to Scarborough. If you're happy fixing your dates you can probably get some cheap train tickets by booking now.

Keep your fingers crossed for this dry weather to continue as there are a few boggy sections which are a delight in the dry, deathmarch in the wet (Mosedale is the main culprit)

The guidebook Wotsits linked to is good, if a bit vague so you'll need to corresponding OS maps. I'm sure theres a gpx track somewhere on the interweb

That Lakeland 200 looks well apealling... I might pick your brains after I sit down this weekend and work out the logistics of it first!
