Greetings fellow forumites. I have just registered here as I'm here in Tyndrum preparing for the HT550.
Organiser Alan G has been stressed out all afternoon trying to get the hired Spot tracker to work but thinks now they Are all registering. We all breath easy now and are heading off to eat. See you all later.

I've just joined the forum - I'm interested in this sort of riding, although I'm a road cyclist. Do you need a high level of MTB handling skills to tackle something like this?

I'd say a reasonable amount as some sections are fairly technical and become even more so when you're tired and its dark.

I think technical riding is important as the more you can ride the less you walk.

For those asking about Michael's wheel - I spoke to him on the train up and he's all sorted. He almost missed the train (two big train stations in Glasgow) but other than that is ready to go.

Yes, that would make things very interesting. Just logged in thinking "ooh, I'll get to see the start" and then got mildly confused to see everyone along the trail

Phil Clarke & Steve Heading seem to be the first to the bottom of the Devils Staircase and have a slight gap on the others.

Still bunched up at the moment, but the climb over to Kinlochleven will sort them out

This first split will be interesting as everyone goes for position, and then this evening will be another good split as some ride through for a while and others stop overnight. Yes, this will be interesting

The clock starts ticking at the same time for everyone ... if you're late getting underway you'll have to play catch up.

The late starters are people who probably forgot to turn on there Spot for the start

I think the "late" starts will just be down to the intervals in Spots (successfully) sending out their position. If yours sent just before the start, Trackleaders wouldn't know you've started until the next position gets sent some time later. And it will clock you as already being down the trail.

There's a lot of uncertainty in watching the dots
