Dakota 20 bar mount

I need a new GPS and after reading a recent thread it would appear that the Dakota 20 is within my price range and ticks all my boxes.

I’ve read a few on-line reviews about the bike mounts being a bit flimsy and devices flying out of them on rocky stuff etc. Has anyone had any experience of this?

Is the standard Garmin Dakota mount ok or does anyone use another branded mount?

The standard mount is rubbish, but i think it may be the only option.
You'll tend to find that the mount wears and becomes less snug, so the unit may self eject on rough ground.To improve things i've stuck pieces of electrical tape on the side rails and the lower locking mound, which has improved things no end. Make sure you use the leash so when it ejects you know where it is.

ive a cheap ebay version on two bikes. No issues so far although I always use the lanyard too. At a few quid they are cheap enough to just buy as it wears, not that they need it yet

Now that I make sure it goes on straight and clicks into place I haven't had it jump out for a while now. I'll still use the leash though......

Mounts can be had on eBay for £4.

I have an Oregon on my bike, but the mounts the same (I think)

I haven't done anything knarly but the GPS has never come off in any riding conditions, including falling off and landing hard

Its a bit of an effort to put it in the mount to be honest, its definitely a two handed job as its quite stiff

I'm surprised people have had theirs fall out. I use the lanyard to attach it to the bars but its always been overkill

I'm still using the Dakota with that bodge.

Works well for me on and off road.

The mounts seem to be slightly variable. I have two and one was a much better fit out-of-the-box than the other. So that might explain why some folks have no problems.

I have used Garmin and ebay copies. The copies do not fit as well, tolerances are not so good either tight or loose but hold gps in place. The official are pricy though. I did use Aidan's bodge and it worked fine.
