How old are you?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Looking at some pics of the start of the WRT got me thinking that maybe bikepacking was something done by people of a certain age. I'm sure the average age of mountain bikers in general is on the up but I wondered whether bikepacking has a greater share of older riders?

Would I be right to think I'm still the youngest to start a bearbones event? :-bd

No, a few years ago there was a young lad of 10 or 11 did the WRT.

If you pull your finger out you could still be the youngest BB 200 finisher

When I was at the HTR '13 it definately did seem that this kind of riding sees more older folks than CC, DH and enduro kind of stuff.

Oh dear, looks like I'm upper quartile :| "The older I get, the better I was"

Still, you're only as old as the woman you feel and all that...

I'm hoping my age/time lasts for another year at least...I was proud of my effort. This year, a good time is off the cards, life & an ongoing I jury is buggering things up. Go on Ben, get the finishers age record, just don't beat my time

Could you add another category to the list: "old enough to know better" ;)

47. Hairs are growing out of my ears, my eyebrows need cutting whenever I clipper my head, my head is bereft of flowing locks, age is a bad thing! I've always like mature women, but now they're younger than me!

I reckon there is a reason that the majority of us are fairly old, that being we have cycled for many years and are now looking for something to take it in a new direction.

A couple of years ago the average age of Singletrack mag readership was around 37. With articles on bikepacking in recent edition maybe all the stats are stacking up.

I told Mrs B 20 years ago that I needed to do all this biking stuff before I got to old, and I am still telling her the same thing! 55 years young.

That's all well and good if the woman you 'feel' is younger than you.
