How old are you?
Looking at some pics of the start of the WRT got me thinking that maybe bikepacking was something done by people of a certain age. I'm sure the average age of mountain bikers in general is on the up but I wondered whether bikepacking has a greater share of older riders?
May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: How old are you?
Would I be right to think I'm still the youngest to start a bearbones event?

No, a few years ago there was a young lad of 10 or 11 did the WRT.Would I be right to think I'm still the youngest to start a bearbones event?
If you pull your finger out you could still be the youngest BB 200 finisher

When I was at the HTR '13 it definately did seem that this kind of riding sees more older folks than CC, DH and enduro kind of stuff.s8tannorm wrote:I'm sure the average age of mountain bikers in general is on the up but I wondered whether bikepacking has a greater share of older riders?
Re: How old are you?
I'm not rad enough for "enduro" or dh I have done one xc race just for fun but I really enjoyed the WrtAlpinum wrote:When I was at the HTR '13 it definately did seem that this kind of riding sees more older folks than CC, DH and enduro kind of stuff.s8tannorm wrote:I'm sure the average age of mountain bikers in general is on the up but I wondered whether bikepacking has a greater share of older riders?
Trying to ride bikes.

Oh dear, looks like I'm upper quartile "The older I get, the better I was"
Still, you're only as old as the woman you feel and all that...

Re: How old are you?
52 and feeling every year of it in my body, heads still 14 though
Re: How old are you?
I'm hoping my age/time lasts for another year at least...I was proud of my effort. This year, a good time is off the cards, life & an ongoing I jury is buggering things up. Go on Ben, get the finishers age record, just don't beat my timeBen98 wrote:Damn! What time did you do? I'll see what I can do
Re: How old are you?
Could you add another category to the list: "old enough to know better"
Re: How old are you?
47. Hairs are growing out of my ears, my eyebrows need cutting whenever I clipper my head, my head is bereft of flowing locks, age is a bad thing! I've always like mature women, but now they're younger than me!
Re: How old are you?
I reckon there is a reason that the majority of us are fairly old, that being we have cycled for many years and are now looking for something to take it in a new direction.

Re: How old are you?
A couple of years ago the average age of Singletrack mag readership was around 37. With articles on bikepacking in recent edition maybe all the stats are stacking up.
I told Mrs B 20 years ago that I needed to do all this biking stuff before I got to old, and I am still telling her the same thing! 55 years young.

That's all well and good if the woman you 'feel' is younger than you.drain wrote:Oh dear, looks like I'm upper quartile "The older I get, the better I was"
