Gravel/mtb/road - organised events/challenges

Post by Rockbus »

Further to some of my previous posts I’m going to try and build my fitness/time on bikes by booking some organised events for next year.

thinking of stuff like Calder divide, Brighton to london, Dunwich Dynamo etc.

Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for ones to do?

would like to fill my diary up.

Shameful self-plug here:
Tor Divide on the 17-18th May 2025 (Peak District).

It's early in the season so that it gets you ready for events during the summer, but not too early so that it's relatively easy to get some long rides in before the event.
With 3 routes to choose from, most abilities are covered and hopefully there's a combination of distance & terrain that suits most people.
It's a challenge but it's also a great opportunity to meet people before/during/after.

Any questions please let me know!

Fittest year I had was by entering the first dirty reiver as it forced me to train over winter and early spring. It’s pretty expensive now I think but stunning country for a big gravel day out.

For the road (and occasionally gravel) side of things, it's hard to look past the Audax calendar events

The Welsh Ride Thing. That's a great event but I'm not sure if it counts as 'organised' .. that may be why I like it.

I did my first Audax at the weekend. 70 miles around Fife visiting graveyards for checkpoints (Halloween theme).

Was really pleasant. Organised but very low key and no real time/speed stress. Everyone was quite chatty and plenty of sandwich/coffee stops on the way.

You've mentioned Calder Divide anyway, but there are Adrian's other events too: https://yorkshiredivide.co.uk
And I don't think there's a website but Dales Divide is a goodie. Over the Easter weekend I think.

Defo the WRT, but also, Jenn Ride, North York Moors 300.

Calder Divide is a great event, and run by a top group of friendly people too.

Although I have not done any as yet, the Alpkit Sonder winter gravel series has just released 11 dates around the country.

+1 on the auduax, did a few last year, great fun, local to most and chip as chips compared to most "organised" rides.
