After losing my first drone in the Mersey, I vowed never to get another.......

But this is hopefully idiot proof and cheap enough to lose

No need to take the remote or even connect it to your phone to fly it, it's got several set programs.
So it really is a drone for TLS especially at just 135grams

My race number for The Torbay 10k in two weeks time. Not pinned a running one on for 25 years .. what could go wrong?

... yesterday and brought the bar I bought on the 30th of August. I'd asked the eBay seller to delay sending for a few days since we were away for a week, so it wasn't say behind the bins all week. He agreed to send it on the Monday, but then was told but to send it til we got back on the Saturday, for some reason. In the end, I don't think he posted it till the following Monday or Tuesday. No matter. But then it got swallowed up by Evri's parcel black hole. The seller was very good at chasing them, but eventually on Monday they admitted they'd lost it. Then yesterday they un-lost it and it turned up

In the meantime Mart of this parish tried to rescue me with a very nice carbon bar... But the 24 hour service turned out but to be, so that's something to look forward to when I get back - flying to Italy for the TNR later today

I'll be keen to hear how you get on with that, I like the idea of a drone but I don't want to put in the hours learning how to fly it. I have seen that these ones shouldn't be flown over water so hopefully it won't join its mate in the Mersey! 🫣

There's a short review of it on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaRNE7Jl9E8

Idiot proof? There's a programmer's quip: programming is a race between programmers writing better and more idiot proof code and the universe producing more and better idiots. So far the universe is winning!

The Neo looks really good - well priced, enough tricks out of the box, and low faff

Suunto Race S. Nice little upgrade the the previous Suunto 9 I had and sold to a friend. On board maps and approved by DCrainmaker. What more could one ask for, Alhamdulillah/All Praise to God.

Just downloading the maps and it's super smart. Won't allow you sync OSM regions from the app unless connected to the charger. Even gives you notices and everything. Hopefully looking forward to it.

NB. It's holding it's price at Suunto and all the sites. But, if you go onto FirstClassWatches and send em an offer. They might accept. Gave me mine for £289 so really really thankful for that.

Chuffing big box!! New, fully assembled Giant TCR. Nothing wrong with my old one to be honest but this has disk brakes and is 12 years newer...

Happy new bike day JohnAllen. I love my TCR and I'mexpecting you'lldo yours. Which spec did you get (Ultegra, Dura Ace or something else). Carbon version right! I think I helitaped (or equivalent) mine.

Its last years Advanced 2. Carbon frame, 12 speed mechanical 105 and the last model to not ridiculously 'fully integrate' the cables through the bars/stem/steerer. SLR2 carbon wheels also came as an optional upgrade. Given how much bikes seem to cost these days, it could be considered a bargain...

Clearly need pictures on new bike day!

- - -

Two items, one arrived at the weekend. A second hand mountain equipment fleece/softshell coat at a bargain price, washed and proofed with nikwax and looks good as new. Happy days :-bd

Ordered yesterday, arrived today and all setup (and hopefully working), a cat tracker. Fingers crossed it doesn’t let us down

Some very lovely Velo Orange Zeppelin mudguards in 700x52mm. My other VO guards were 650b, and although they can be re-radiused to an extent, it wasn't going to work on a large 40mm 700c tyre. Hopefully will repurpose the older guards on the town bike. I quite like getting mudguards on for autumn/winter, it makes the bike complete and fully practical again :-bd

I have derived great pleasure from wandering around neighbouring areas waving my phone in the air so I can retrieve another lost collar. :???: I've given up on collars and trackers given my commitment to cut down on single use plastic.

Does it track them live? We've got one that you can plug in to the laptop to see where they've been. Two sisters, on different nights, one didn't leave the garden while the other went EVERYWHERE, including back and forth across the burn. (We keep them in at night these days, so as not to have to be dealing with dead mice, birds, on one occasion a bat).

We lost one collar at the start (just a normal one), so never bothered with one again but after being missing for 8 days, we’ll see how this one goes.

It does, you can set a cut off time to increase battery etc. I set ours to stop tracking to my phone after 5 minutes of being outside (outside means outside of WiFi range). You can have it running all day but drains battery very quick. There’s an option to click live track and it will pick up my cat within a few seconds.

First day the battery lasted less than 24 hours as both me and the wife kept looking where he was, I reckon we could get two days out of the battery before a recharge (but we’ll do it each night in case he goes missing)

We keep our cat in at night, probably because we’re used to dogs. Tried to lock him in our bedroom when we first him like we did with our dogs but he was having none of it and wanted to roam the house

£120 for two years worth of tracking. Cheaper than my spot!

….and brought a Helinox Ground Chair. An impulse buy that I’ve hankered after for years, but now I’ve flogged my mums house and feeling flush with money. Now I have buyers remorse cos I could have got 10% off if I’d signed up for their newsletter, or the same if I’d gone to Cotswolds and used my Canw Cymru membership or looked in flea bay where there are two up for grabs.

And to add insult to injury - on my first sit in it, I overbalanced backwards and clunked my head on the wooden frame of the sofa. there’s a technique, obviously.

Now I need to decide what I can leave behind to compensate for the extra weight. Maybe join the fat-fighters club?

An Ortlieb quick rack

For stealthy bike packing trips with ones group, I can manage with seatpack, framebag,, etc

With another group, who like a bit more comfort, I feel the need to keep up, and need to take a chair, more food etc - so panniers are required.

Ordered a spare set of mounting bosses, too, so I can swap between gravel and road bikes, as the situation arises.

Not sure when I'll get chance to fit/use, though.

Options:
a) leave them as they are and learn to love them.
b) sand them back to raw carbon, or use some other method.
c) paint them (black)

They're to go on a new bamboo frame, the kit for which should also be arriving this week.
