Older school gravel cx options?

Post by restlessshawn »

I have a nice set of qr disc wheels and post mount brakes plus drivetrain so was looking to see what frames are available.

Only really found surly straggler but even that at 5’8” I probably want a 52 which is for 650 wheels.

Any other options for new or am I looking at second hand?

Cheers

I think most manufacturers have been driven towards thru axle now (Cy from Cotic is still grumbling about it for the Escapade). Something like an old Tour de Fer might be a good option?

Kinesis used to do a couple, forgot their names though :o a few friends had them, seemed quite nice

My memory is hazy but Cannondale may need the wheels redishing to sit correctly, so maybe a brand to avoid?

Edit might have been Kinesis Crosslight?

yeah old tdf or cdf frame would do

soma is lovely but rather expensive without a fork

I also have a feeling there is something odd about cannondale rear wheels!

One other new option though I know nothing of them

i have a full Dtour bike, and it is fantastic.
9 spd with bar end shifters. very reliable.

Was going to suggest something from spa cycles...not sure how many of their frames are qr though.

This is cheap and might fit the bill https://www.customriders.com/bike-parts ... CjEALw_wcB

Genesis CDA looks to be QR and will be cheaper than cdf's. Even if newer ones have flat mount you can get adaptors for getting it to post mount.

Otherwise keep looking at eBay for older gravel/cx frames, like planet x and Whyte..? Bound to find a good deal.

I've got a medium Spa Elan 725 frameset for sale if interested. Black, brand new frame and lightly used full carbon fork. QR and post mounts at each end.

Open to reasonable offers

54cm according to Spa, although I've not measured it personally.
