Atlas race underway.

Post by ton »

the Atlas race in now underway after a 24 hour delay because of rain and flooding.
Rich and Shona flying the UK flag on the tandem,so good luck to them.
and i am hoping that Justinas Leveika gets a win. simply because he is such a nice bloke.
i had a good chat with him on and after his win on the Fat Viking, and he is not like most elite riders i have met. just a nice friendly bloke.

I just finished watching a video of him chatting to a vlogger.

He does seem like a really down to earth and likeable chap.

I was shocked to discover he also works full-time managing a nursing home.

All the more remarkable that he is able to compete at such an elite level with such a demanding job. :-bd

just short of 800km in 48 hours, pretty amazing really.

Rich and Shona going well at a more managable 390km.

Justinas has finally caught up with Drikus.

Some insane pace that...although based on previous years, I wouldn't be surprised if they both collapse and Ube ends up winning it.

Hats off to Cynthia Carson, she's smashing it

Less than 60km to the finish and under 5km between the first and second place. They appear to have ridden 1260km in 31/2 days without sleep, that's crazy! Third is not far back either.

Out of curiosity, how do 'scrathers' get back to base?

Control car, or just tour a direct route?

Bike unceremoniously lobbed on a Dacia Taxi roof rack seemed to be the way in the 2020 version.

Almost, but then your bike gets unceremoniously dumped in an HGV at the finish unless you luckily brought your bike bag and happened to get a space on the bus...

Drama at the end again, the long time leader and latterly second has had to drop out with 50km to go due to dehydration. Must be gutted.
