BB200 is pure, soft, GRAVEL

Post by Valerio »

As far as click-bait goes I think only writing s3x/p0rn/etc would top that title....apologies for being cheeky!

Now that I have your attention:
I took part to BB200 back in October to raise some money for a friend, husband, dad, former basketball captain/team-mate and converted mountain biker Piotr who's fighting cancer and had to undergo a lot of heavy treatment in Germany.
I have since put together a video from the event and written a recap of the experience. Needless to say it wasn't a walk in the park and it went beyond anything I expected. Thanks Stuart.
I have shared video and words with Gravel Union and they have decided to publish it, and they've also made a hefty donation to Piotr.

Here's a link to the article:
https://www.gravelunion.cc/article/bear ... -mid-wales

Between the text you'll also find a couple of photos, a link to the Youtube video and a link to Piotr page on Justgiving.

If you enjoy it, all I ask is that you consider contributing to the fundraiser and/or help by sharing the article/Justgiving page.
In exchange I promise to never put the words BB200 and gravel in the same sentence again.

I should add that if I got anyone's name wrong in the text I'm terribly sorry, my brain has tried hard to erase any memories from that day! (and my memory is pretty poor anyway)

It was great to meet everyone I bumped into during the ride, including those not mentioned in the article.

That was a good read, manages to put some depth into the mental challenge as well as the riding :-bd
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

That's the 200 for you...

Surprised how much of that I recognised from past years and I haven't entered since 2020!

Very impressed with your time.

Top effort.

Particularly loved your post ride description of some parts of the route.... "F*cking nonsense"

Thanks both!!!

I can't say I was particularly lucid right after the event, my brain struggles enough with having a conversation in normal conditions (English isn't my first language as you can probably tell) nevermind when I'm knackered.
I don't like recording myself but I'm glad I did it, it will remind me how I felt and hopefully convince me to not sign up again hahha.

Memories from these events seem to fade so quickly, at least for me, and video footage can only cover so much. I might keep on writing recaps like this one, if anything to go back to them in the future and help my brain to remember details, places, and NAMES!

Cheers for that, a good read.
Funnily enough I've now progressed from "never again" to "can't wait until the next one"
I mean it can be any worse can it?

That's every year Phil.

It's an event I love, as its a true test of character. So far every finisher has character :-)

If the 2024 is going to be any worse I'll pack a snorkel and won't bother with a bike
