Waterproof Overshoes in a hurry - suggest some!

Post by redefined_cycles »

Decided that to do a 300 miler in 36 hours I'm better taking the spd boots. They're Shimano waterproofs but not actually waterproof (or maybe I ask of em a bit too much.
So have decided the smartest thing to do, if I'm gonna do an spd ride, is to go and fetch some overshoes - despite saying to myself I'll never bother again!

Seen various ones, but most don't state mtb and are either super expesnive or might not get to me in time (ride planned Sunday but I'll be away for Friday afternoon.

Anyone managed to find some right bargains or some nice overshoes that have actually been relaibly waterproof. Going over winter/waterproof shoes I'm sure I've got plenty of 'braking distance' with a double layer of almost waterproof shoes/covers.

Thanks

Used these for years and are the best I've found. Not totally waterproof but keep the worst of the weather off and toasty too.

Thanks Phil. Alas, none in stock in my size. I wonder if these would fit spd boots: https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Endura-Road-Ov ... sku=727947

States xmas delivery so might arrive in time.

Another idea….

I used to use waterproof boots
XM9 like many here.
Fine until water got in
Which on a bbx00 is fairly common

Then swapped things around
Kept with my mountain bike shoes
Spesh recon 3
With sealskin waterproof soaks beneath.

Works brilliantly
When riding
When weather is good wear normal socks
If a water crossing is less than sock height wear water socks
Then leave on socks until shoes are dry
If water crossing is stupid deep take off socks
Put back on other side.

Bit of a fail when rising Goldilocks and got bitten by a dog at low sock height. Luckily wasn’t wearing my goretex trousers.

When hiking in Iceland I wear fell running shoes
Dry weather normal socks
For a river cross take off socks
Other side put on waterproof socks
When shoes dry back to normal socks.
When raining keep with waterproof socks.

Halfords do neoprene Ridge overshoes for £13. Pretty good and very similar to the Planet X ones, which I've also used for years.

Neither are puppy-proof

But wellies are! :-bd

but most don't state mtb
What do you want bigger size to for a mtb( then just get xlnor a size or.two up) or something you can walk on? ( don't know of any that are designed for this)

IME either neoprene or waterproof material will ultimately fail.but the.former are warmer .

I have a set of either if you want them posting but would want them back

Anybody able to recommend some nylon type overshoes
? Although I have some nice ones made out of a neoprene type material, I really miss my Aldi nylon type overshoes as they were so quick to put on and off and kept the worse off the weather and mud off. They were very thin so not the best for warmth but I was generally fine. Putting my neoprene and similar type overshoes on seem very fiddly and time consuming by comparison. Thanks.

My waterproof ones are the aldi ones and I know what you mean ( live in the frame bag of the roadie bike for biblical outbursts of rain)

Thanks all. Yes, the Ridge ones is what I think I'll go get tomorrow. Especially if they're nylon and can live in the frame bag.

Who'd have though that waterproof boots (with proper waterproof trousers around the big hole) aren't even waterproof these days. Both hiking and spd boots that is (2 pairs of spd Shimano Winter now showing their porous colours with little usage.

Hopefully Halfords have some in stock :-bd
