Rim advice please

Post by Teaman »

Hi
I’m looking at a rear wheel build and was considering a Kinlin TL29 rim, 29” and 32H to match my front wheel. They are currently in short supply and can’t get a Matt black one unless it has eyelets, so my wheel builder at the club has offered me a DT Swiss M502 as an alternative.
Any experience/comments on the DT Swiss M502 or possibly some other suitable alternatives?

Use will be on my travel bike a Rigid Frontier and fairly well laden.

Thanks.

I built myself up a pair of m502's after destroying some stans arch's on the HT550. Slightly heavier, I reused the old spokes and built a 3rd wheel with a dynamo and haven't touched them in nearly 5 years. Bomb proof so far on a rigid. I would recommend, reasonably priced aswell from zee germanz!

I've got DT Swiss XM421's on mine and wifeys bikepacking bikes. Both bikes are running 2.4 tyres.

Quite like a Diplomatico.

Had a nice Plantation one that had Pineapple tree bark in it at some point. Would recommend.

Generally I'd avoid the spiced stuff. Mostly low quality booze with too many additions to try and cover it up

In other news DT make excellent wheel rims in my somewhat limited experience, so if the price:weight ratio is acceptable, don't worry about quality.
