There's a set of wooden steps down from the canal just after the Avon Aqueduct - anyone know if it's gated?

Don't believe those steps are locked.
If they are, you can come off the canal here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/nFe1UMSExnjPn13y5 and get into Muiravonside Park from the road entrance. Any barriers are for cars, you can nip past on the bike.

Not been down that path for a while but last time the gate wasn’t locked. Don’t think I should be locked as there’s access from the car park for cyclists at all times.

Good stuff, thanks. Not knowing the park I was just a bit worried about disturbing anyone living/working there, but sounds like it'll be OK. Will avoid the main entrance if I can though, at least on the way in. Back in March it was very pleasing to roll through the early morning gates of the Dalkeith Estate, which had been closed the night before.
