I'm so glad I look over the routes so carefully.
So is everyone else but more importantly, what's going on here. Can't be right can it?

Yeah, that doesn't seem likely. In my experience the weather on the days before makes a bigger difference to the ride anyway though (in terms of speed at least, rather than comfort).

Stu, are we ok to camp (in the van rather than pitching a shelter, like) in the carpark on the Friday night?

And/or what are others doing?

To be honest, the new 20 zones don't seem to apply to cars either. What does seem to have happened is that people are now driving at 30 in a 20 rather than 40 in a 30 ... which of course might have been the desired effect.
That was always recognised as the likely reality, I live in what supposed to be a 20 next to a park, plenty of people who live in the area and delivery drivers taxi drivers etc seem to think it doesn't apply to them

I've noticed that Llanbrynmair is typically two degrees warmer and substantially less wet than where I live since I started tracking it on the Met Office app

Not really sure where you'd even pitch a shelter. Car park opposite the Wynnstay Arms is preferred for Friday night stays rather than the community centre as there's less houses / population etc.

Ta. I'd spotted that as a possible alternative. I mainly just didn't want to drop you in it if stopping somewhere overnight was frowned upon.

I check for another nearby town and it was 18c max, 0-10% chance of rain and 11/25mph winds. 1831 sunset :-(

I could do with a couple more hours on that sunset time.

Always much tougher in the dark to do the sections where there's no obvious route. Lights are a poor substitute for the sun.

If that forecast comes to fruition, I'll stand a bit of pushing across trackless moorland in the dark....
Mind you, the forecast has changed pretty much every day for the last week so I'm not counting chickens

My good news of the month is that I was speaking to my mate Donald (not Trump) about route planning and the efficiency of MyMaps app to find facilities. Sent him a screenshot of a Coop I'd found and how the app could work for him.

He pointed out the halal pizza place that he frequents often. So... If I can ride 85.9 miles before they shut it might be on the menu  Such a wonderful world...

 I'm not saying as I'm not sure we're allowed to give away hints of where the route takes us... But...

I might call the takeaway at 85.9 miles (on the BB200) today and grovel if they might stay open til maybe 0030. Could I get a little headcount on how many might be aiming to eat there so I can argue our case

No worries if it's just me as won't call (or it might be deemed as inappropriate? and just work harder to get there.

@Rich on the Bearbones when you and your other half opened the tuck shop. Roughly at what milage was that on the route pls?

Also, this death march area. I still haven't figured it out properly. Pls can someone give an idea of where's it at (what milage roughly) so I can try and compensate  ).

I'm assuming its either the east to west leg or the bit heading north after the forest a few 10's of k later

I'm hoping to hit the takeaways before they close but there are too many variables

I'd just go for it and see it as a target chances are a lot will be through there early and it will be more the stragglers aiming to scrape a black badge who would be disappointed. It's almost a "Bullseye" feeling as you cycle past looking at what you would have won

Yeah, those options are at around the 2/3 mark so if you’re close to 24hr pace that’s 16hrs from setting off. A 21hr pace would get you there in time- just!

The areas that look interesting to me are 55-62km. 71-90km, 118-123km. That's as far as I have got so far.

Been a while, but I think it might have been something like 110-120km.

Thing is, it's not so much about distance as it is about what terrain is in that distance. I've had 20km take me an hour, and I've had it take me 4 hours.

Yes, I was thinking that after I'd seen the (massive?) section of HAB. Thing is I only needs to get to mile 80 by 2230. On that day I only got to mile 70 by midnight or so.

Must work harder! :o

I am ABSOULTELY NOT !!!!! saying this will in anyway be anything other than extremely challenging, but there looks according to OS/OSM/Other mapping and three different aerial sources, to be a reasonable amount of hard surface/road/track on the route. Yes some might be motorway smooth and lots might be very rutted, muddy, boulder covered, but still firm surfaces rather than bogs.

Still there are lots of hills, but have I missed any really bad off road sections apart from these ones 55-62km. 71-90km, 118-123km I'm guessing the first two should be doable in daylight if you keep a decent enough pace up and the third one looks the least horrible of the three.

Approx 1cm of rain between now and Sat and even the Sat/Sun forecast looks quite good for Wales.

I'm now getting worried about where Stu has hidden some thing nasty!!!

Indeed

Duncan- I’ve done the first of your sections in reverse ( at night) and it was mostly OK but we’ll be going uphill. Not even been near the other two so no idea what they’re like. The last one has featured in a previous edition

Rich. Why'd you always have to go for the pain option. Why not take it steady and aim at 20H instead of 16. That way you can relax and enjoy the ride (and walk)

It's all type 1 fun I can assure you. It's Wales
