Morning all,

So.....after my incredible temporary weight gain in Tuscany (I think I just needed all the delicious food to digest and pass) I've been feeling pretty good about where my fitness is at (given the things that have gone on of late etc...).

Hiking loads, even beginning to run parts of each hike. Feeling good on the bike. Looking forward to a nice long summer season of literally every kind of bike riding imaginable.

Until.....

On Tuesday I convinced Mrs Gairy to come on a hike/run with me and half way through I spectacularly folded my ankle +90° in a direction it doesn't like.

Had to improvise a makeshift crutch from a fallen tree branch and hobble 1.5km over steep and rocky terrain to a train station to get back to the car.

Arse!!!

You may recall I did this at the tail-end of last year and had loads of scans and chats with surgeons etc... and the whole reason for the exact hike I've been doing 2-3 times a week before work was because it was great strengthening exercise for the ankle.

Unsurprising then due to my previous ankle injury history except.....that this was the other ankle - double arse!!!

So I'm now back where I was six months ago.

Compression sock, support boot, painkillers, ice packs, rest, elevation, upcoming ultrasound and MRI appointments and not much to look forward to in the immediate future.....

Attempting to maintain a sunny disposition and continuing with the intermittent fasting schedule I recently adopted in order to stop myself from comfort eating whilst feeling sorry for myself.

Let's see how the weigh-in's go over the next few weeks.....

01-01-23 - 119.1kg
06-01-23 - 121kg
06-02-23 - 122kg
10-02-23 - 121.1kg

31-03-23 - 125kg
25-04-23 - 128kg
09-05-23 - 124.6kg
07-06-23 - 129kg
16-06-23 - 124kg
23-06-23 - 123.7kg

Unsurprisingly, after Nikki being away last weekend, I was up to 125kg BUT since then I've been testing a new intermittent fasting timing and have lost a few hundred grams every day since.

Whenever I've tried it before (usually 16:8) I've always eaten a late lunch and then an evening meal and 'fasted' until the late lunch the next day.

It was ok but I often don't bother with breakfast anyway and so I was used to cramming a days worth of eating into the afternoon and evening anyway AND it allowed, even supported, going big in the evenings (as I'd fasted!). It also meant that beer/wine was ok (at least calorie-wise).

So after 5 days I've gotten quickly used to letting go of the idea of eating an evening meal (even if I still think about it 50-100 times throughout the the latter part of the day) and I quite like it.

I already feel like I'm sleeping better and waking up feeling less bloated. It's also rekindled my enthusiasm for breakfast unsurprisingly :-bd

And zero booze calories, which is welcome from a number of angles.

All-in-all I'm a fan so far and will continue.....

The ankle is still f*©ked though!

Another fun week with a tiny loss (I'll take what I can get!).

Daughter in cast with copycat ankle injury, youngest had his tonsils and adenoids out on Wednesday and I was the chosen parent to spend the night on the floor getting precisely zero seconds of sleep.

Still, managed to eat fairly well. No exercise but lots of ankle physio. Mainly stuck to the intermittent fasting plan.

No so bad all things considered.....

Way to go, mate! Good effort that...even if the dog helped. I've felt we were along the same course, even when things have been not so good recently. Doesn't mean it ends in failure, only a new start. I haven't weighed in a while, partly because I haven't been around my usual weigh-in date but also because I knew the news wouldn't be good. I'm trying to weigh-in tomorrow and find out where I'm at. I've kind of got a second...third...fourth or even fith wind now and would like to see it through. A bit of a reboot should get us there soon, right?

Target - 72kg
7/1 - 73.8kg
14/1 - 72.9kg
21/1 - 73.1kg
28/1 - 73.2kg
4/2 - 72.5kg
11/2 - 72.6kg.
18/2 - 73.3kg
25/2 - 72.7kg.
4/3 - 73.2kg.
18/3 - 73.6kg.
25/3 - 73kg
1/4 - 73.4kg
8/4 - 74.2kg
15/4 - 74.6kg
22/4 - 74kg
29/4 - 74.4kg
15/7 - 74.5kg
A big gap between these last weigh-ins and had I checked it before I'd have been even heavier. As Ledburner said, lack of will power and bad habits crept in. Just lost interest tbh. Now trying to take it fairly serious for a couple of weeks before a holiday. Will then try and get it finished on return before a beach hol in October.

Well done Catrike. I work in the industry of after-health-scare management :-bd and can reliably advise you to add a tablespoon (or two) of raw/extra virgin olive oil into the diet. It helps strip the clogging (cholesterol) inside the blood vessels. I try to have it daily and it's been doing wonders :-bd

Yes I have made significant dietary changes, I'm an ex ITU and Emergency Nurse Practitioner so really should have known better regarding gaining so much weight.
I have stopped drinking alcohol, given up red meat beef, pork etc and processed food, reduced my meat consumption massively and eat more veggies and extra virgin olive oil, and apple cider vinegar in a tall glass of sparkling water before a meal, scientifically proven to reduce blood sugar spikes after eating carbs, Acetic acid reduces the speed of breakdown of carbs into sugar. I don't have diabetes but I developed a pretty serious pancreas problem, I thought I was done for and it scared the living S**t out of me.
Watch your bowels folks they tell you all sorts about whats going on in your body!
Thanks All for the kind words and encouragement :-bd

I've not weighed myself in ages.

Not ignoring my quest for health, fitness and a sensible/sustainable weight but just been flat out busy and not felt inclined to take measurements.

I'm gently optimistic that there might be a bit of loss if/when I step on some scales but we'll see.....
