That's really impressive. Same weight as a 5month old baby or a Lhasu Apso. I know I'm going to be put to shame at my weigh-in tomorrow.

Just came across this organisation Beat who do information and training to do with eating disorders and I thought it might be of interest to more than just me.

I'm thinking of going on their virtual session on Tuesday afternoon on exercise and eating if I can find out a bit more detail as it's £55 for the afternoon https://www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/

Saw it in an Adrian Chiles article. Does seem to be more for anorexics / bulimic's than the other end of the scale. Us. And more to the point, my boy. Was meaning to ask your collective advice about what I can do so this is as good a time as any.

My lad. He's a fantastic man, I love him to bits. Always leaned towards plump, but we hoped it'd be puppy fat. All I can say is he must have eaten a lot of puppies now !
He had full on Meningitis B / Septicaemia when he was 2.5. We were told he wasn't likely to make it and prepare for the worst. He pulled through after 16 days in ICU, and luckily had very little /no visible damage. But we can never know if this caused invisible damage in his brain.
He's clever, articulate, funny, knowledgeable, a great man to be around.
We used to cycle loads, Singlespeed events all over the UK and Europe, HONC, Bikepacking too, a 6 day 350mile Tour De Belgium with some 70 mile days. This was up to when he was 18. He's now 24.
But at 6'1" he's about 36st /228 kg.
He lives with his mum not me.
We both did keto about 6 years ago and both lost about 3 stone so he was just over 20 stone. Oddly at that weight he looked fine, like a big rugby player.
Then me and his mum split up.
And he's piled on the weight.
I don't accept blame for this as he is an adult and knows what he's eating. I can't and won't be there all the time, it's his responsibility.
I've tried everything. Coaxing him to walk with me ( he will, I phone him and we walk & talk, he'll do 1.5 miles ) I've tried dieting with him, and getting him to do a food diary, and berating him, and crying 'cos I don't want to lose him..... it's water off a ducks back. He talks the talk, but when it comes to walking the walk and losing weight, he's ok for a couple of days then goes quiet, and not responding to texts or calls.
He needs to see a therapist.
He's got terrible sleep apnea and is waiting to see if the NHS will give him a CPAP machine, he's borderline diabetic. It'll be killing him tbh.
He says he'd love to get back cycling again and has a Sonder Frontier waiting to be built in his garage, but he's WAY too heavy for cycling at the moment.
Sorry for this diatribe.
Anyone got any advice?

Sorry, not got any advice other than if you can get him to see a counsellor/therapist and you can afford it it's money well spent. I didn't see anyone until in my 30s and had some traumatic times before then that I could have avoided if I'd had more self knowledge and an outlet to talk.

Speaking from personal experience there's usually a massive psychological background to such issues. It doesn't mean someone has done anything wrong, or is to blame. I have issues from being as small as I can remember, due to my 'kids take on things' then, and I had no real bad parenting as such.

I hope youse can get some help. If nothing else there's Andy's Man Clubs on 7pm on a Monday night around the country which are free and a way to unload if needs be and have peer support.

As regards that course, yeh it was the Adrian Chile's article I followed it up from (totally rang a bell with me!) Entries closed this lunchtime, but I'm not doing it as they confirmed it's more to do with actually elite/sport and under nourishment, not binging and purging with exercise which is what the title suggested to me.

A good ride on Sunday catching the train to Church Stretton, and doing a full traverse along the Long Mynd then riding home helped !
A couple of socially busy days broke my 10,000 step record :( I got to 58 days.
I've now caught some lurgy so might struggle to get the required 40 miles this week. But I'll try.

Cheers. I feel pretty motivated, and it's great to get to a milestone ... sub 15st was MASSIVE, next 14st 10lb, then 14st 7 ... I expect this to take a couple of months though.

Not surprised at the essentially stagnant weight. Had a rough week health wise after BAM leaving me wiped out mainly due to the poor sleep and getting organised for it. tbh I wasn't feeling up to it anyway, but did it as it was a great weather window, and it was actually a lovely spot and evening.

I've realised that when I'm wiped out I feel like I need to eat to give me energy, but the issue isn't lack of energy from food it's just my CNS is wiped out and fecked, but it's hard to get past the feeling of if I eat xyz I might feel better. Must try harder :roll:

It's been an out of wack week with a race last sunday, massive post race munchies and skipped training runs. 40km run for the week. *I forgot to weigh myself first thing so weight is post-run, post first coffee of the day - real figure is probably 0.5kg more.

I was down visiting my grownup kids in South Wales last week. I enjoyed far too many Tiny Rebel beers, hoovered up too many snacks, etc. and wasn’t able to ride my bike. Didn’t have access to a set of scales either - probably just as well! :???:

Anyway, this week I’ve been far more disciplined on the food and drink front and cycled every day. In doing so, I’ve managed to get back to where I was two Fridays ago.

However… I’m away up north today with Mrs G to a cottage for a week. It’s a certainty that I’ll be consuming too many calories (including that beer and nibble thing again!) but I’m hoping that the weather is user-friendly enough for me get out on the bike to offset the damage somewhat.

BOOM ! At last a REALLY good weight loss! 3lb in a week, this far in to the process is stoating !
Still walking 10,000 steps daily, which is about 5 miles for me.
Still yoga'ing /stretching most days, not sure if every day is better or worse.
On target, actually ahead of target cycling-wise, 51 miles in the last 7 days.
EDIT: I've just rejigged my mileage log to be more accurate. My target for the year is 2023 miles, which I've had as needing 40 miles a week, but 40 x 52 is 2080 not 2023. So I NEED 38.9 miles a week not 40.
I've altered the spreadsheet to 38.9 and I'm now a little further ahead than where I was :-bd I'm now about 23 miles ahead of schedule.

So everything going to plan.

No weigh in next Weds as I'm walking the Mortimer Trail from Kington to Ludlow, only 30 miles or so, but hilly ones, over 2.5 days.
