Route archive.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Following my dumb questions last week, we now have a route archive: https://www.bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/routes/

There will be a link added from to menu at the top of the forum shortly (I forgot). Anyway, thanks for the input and a special thank you to Jack for answering my stupid questions and helping get it sorted and fully functional. Yes, there are donation buttons

That's the first 10 (I think) BB200 conjoined - follow one until it meets another, then follow that one. Keep going until you return to where you started. Dave mapped it out and it looks likes a smashing way to occupy a quiet afternoon

Ah, I remember now. A quick search and it's the last page of the "All the Bears" thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21047 A mere 650km

I think so ... but every rider is different so maybe the question ought to be "is it suitable for me on a gravel bike?"

I frame it more as " Do I trust the man who designs BB200 routes as "rideable"?"
I shall provide feedback later in the year!

Have to admit, I've never thought 'Stu, is he rideable'. Risible maybe....
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

No Shaf, the first BB200 was 2011.

Shaf, 2011 and 2012 were the same route. 2013 was that route in reverse. So there's been twelve BB200s but only ten different routes.

Stu, might be an idea to mention in the blurb for each one whether it was ridden clockwise or anticlockwise.

Thanks Stu/Bob. Not that I'm thinking of attempting any one of them (anytime soon). But, you never know!

If you drag over the gradient profile, it takes you round the route in the direction it's mapped Bob - although given some peoples ability to go 'in reverse' maybe it's not a bad idea

Stu , is the Big Bear the original 520 route or the 530 v2 version? (I haven't looked)

Plus, are you thinking this could be expanded to have other routes (WC2C, TCW etc etc)

It'll be nice to have a go at the BBs I missed because life got in the way. I'm strangely drawn to 2014 despite the stories.

It's V2 Steve.

Possibly but undecided yet. Think we'll give it a little while and see how it goes.

Just had a look at the 2014 route - I can see why it caused so much distress, even from aerial photos

Just thinking back to 2014, the only bits I remember that were really bad were the 2 sections of tussocky hike a bike before the Coed y brenin climb.
Were there more?

Pretty much what I'd ID'd as being 'tricky' based on a lack of clear path anywhere near the GPX track or ROW line..... One of them looked quite lengthy though!
