Labour policy to expand wild camping?

Post by Tanglefist »

Early days, and the article is pretty speculative but, damn, this would be amazing.

"In the bill, which is currently being drawn up by the party amid widespread but careful optimism that the next general election will see Labour return to office, there could be a new law that would allow national parks to adopt the right to wild camp, as well as expanding public access to woodlands and waterways."

Who knows how much heavy lifting the 'could' is doing, but it's a little ray of hope.

Ahh we are so cynical on here....

Pretty much my thought - it's made the press - rich man takes rights from poor man - and Labour jump on the bandwagon knowing they have hee haw chance of getting re-elected anytime soon....

Realistically they'll have 100 other problems to clear up from the current mess before they can get onto things like this that really aren't a priority. But I appreciate them taking a position on it.

They have a near 50% polling and 20 %+ lead

Even the Tories expect them to form the next government. Soon means 18mths.

As.for the legislation it's centuries over due and zero chance the Tory party of shooters, landowners and the aristocracy will give their land over to us plebs, for free.

Yeah, the Tories weren't ahead once in 2022.

Biggest problem is the royal assent, they can and do kill prospective legislation that improves access to land. The recent government access review was killed by this. Essentially legislation doesn't even get drafted nevermind debated with this veto
