Insulated bottle recommendations

Post by ootini »

For a brew on the go, without the faff of making a brew, I'm thinking of grabbing an insulated bottle / flask. What's good ?

Cheers

I’ve had a camelback chute for years- it’s a good fit in a bottle cage and not too fiddly to drink on the go.

I second Rich, the Thermos Ultimate is the best flask I've used. Mine's the 500ml version which can be had for around £20.

There are two different types - insulated cup or a flask

The former you drink directly from - e.g. a Contigo Autoseal (have used them for years, very good)

The latter you pour into another drinking vessel, like the lid - e.g. Thermos Ultimate or my personal favourite, a Zojirushi

Thermos do a decent looking cup flask which I'm testing today, saves the faff of pouring

Not quite 24/24 rating but looks good enough for a winter ride dumped in a bar feed bag

900ml version of the Thermos looks like it's going cheap on Amazon:

Does it fit in a standard bottle cage?

Chillys style bottles, optionally with a thin layer of inner tube stretched over them, fit nicely in a bottle cage and keep drink hot.

I've got an older version of the Thermos direct drink type, 500ml or so. Not a perfect fit into a metal cage but if you have a plastic cage and a strap to cinch it it's fine. Been meaning to cut an old bottle off near the top and put it into that for taking on the bike. Never leaked and does the job well on winter rides.

The camelback on I mentioned has a plasticy coating over the bottom half so it sits well in a cage and has a nice handle bit to pull it out with :-bd

Brilliant flask. I scalded my rowing crew with mulled wine last weekend
